Worth going to the docs? Period related!

I’m 41. Not on any contraception because my husband has had a vasectomy. 2 children born by c-section.

The last couple of years my mood has really dipped around my period where this was not a problem before. I feel really angry sometimes.

Also my period is horribly heavy for the first day or 2 then is very weak for the rest of it. Before I had my kids I would get more normal periods but sometimes would be in horrendous pain for 20 mins or so around the start of the period (labour contractions were nothing compared to this) and this hasn’t happened since i had my first DD.

What is going on here? Peri menopause? I feel like asking to go back on the pill so that my period would be more predictable and affect my mood less. But I don’t need it for contraception. I don’t want a coil.

Sorry for the boring, TMI thread but I was hoping that others might tell me what they did in a similar situation. GP appointments are so hard to come by, I don’t want to waste their time.

Well you are a little young for pre menopause
I started around 44, and I'd always suffered with bad moods before and after my period so when I became pre menopausal I found that my mood improved
Now I'm menopausal at 49 and no periods, I say this and will probably bleed like hell for a day, cause this happens, and my dark moods caused by my period habe stopped, I'm now just suffering with bad memory, hot sweats, insomnia weight gain and dry skin
But to be honest my dark moods was quite crippling, so if you feel bad go to doctor nothing worse

@Scrunshine I could have written this myself. I'm 38 and after having my DS 19 months ago I've gone from a 7 day of which first 3 days were heavy to 1 extremely heavy day and 2-3 of pretty much nothing and I never had the rage I get now the week before. Haven't seen GAp because from what I've seen on here you're not taken seriously for peri until at least 45 if not closer to 50. Sorry can't help, would love to know what to do myself

I'm in the same boat, i had assumed the symptoms were caused by fibroids but like you I haven't quite got to the stage of seeking medical help yet. I find taking a decent amount of iron supplements helps a lot, and in my case losing a bit of weight, but sympathies, it's not great is it.

Thank you both for taking the time to reply.

Thats really interesting about the fibroids @ivelostmytrousers because with my first I was monitored due to fibroids. When I had my second I mentioned the fibroids but they said they were so small they were not an issue. I’ll definitely mention fibroids when I speak to a doctor.

Ive got a low bmi so I don’t think that’s an issue but I did get told I should take iron and I did for a while but gave up due to the horrible side effects! Give me rage and a heavy period any day 😂
