H moving out - council tax reduction / child benefit?

H has moved out - ultimately I will be starting divorce proceedings. He is living in a rolling rental (no long term contract) - can I claim the single person council tax reduction? Does he need to prove he’s moved out somehow? (Electoral register or similar…?)

Also, his salary is high enough that we can’t claim child benefit, but on my sole salary I could. Can I now start claiming it? Or do I need to wait until we’re divorced for that? Or would we at least separate bank accounts? (We currently still have our joint one).

I have googled, but not finding any answers!

You can claim spd and benefits now, you don’t need to wait for a divorce. You are separated and he’s living elsewhere. You’ll just need to be clear and explain the circumstances.
