Shopping in Telford

Is it decent?
Dd needs a dress for her prom. We live very rurally and have ordered loads online but don't love any.

We don't have much free time and it will take at least a 3 and a half hour train trip to go shopping. I have a choice between Telford and Birmingham. We only have from 12ish to catch the train.

As it's such a faff I don't want her to be disappointed. I've never been to Telford before. Is it OK for shopping or should I travel the extra 40 mins to Birmingham?

I've not been to Telford for years but I would think Birmingham is better.
Can you Google what shops are there or go on a Telford FB page and ask.

ClemmyTine · 25/04/2024 22:57

Can I ask what area you are in? I might know somewhere nearer. 3 and half hours travel is a long time.

Thanks for your reply.
I'm in West Wales.

I've googled yhe shops but you can't tell if they're big, fab stores or gloomy little ones ( I'm looking at you, Carmarthen).

I’d go to Birmingham for that sort of thing, Telford obviously lost Debenhams, I think still has House of Fraser? Cant think of anywhere else there I’d go for a prom dress… it’s more the standard H&M, River Island type stuff.

Mum1976Mum · 25/04/2024 23:03

I know both well. You need to go to Birmingham 100%

Well, I obviously don't have a clue because I thought River Island might have something.

It's got Quiz. They have loads of prom type stuff online. I've never been to one irl.

I'm a bit clueless tbh. Dd hasn't worn a dress since she was about 8.

Oh sorry didn’t mean to say River Island wouldn’t! I was thinking for a prom dress more department stores? Like Debenhams (obviously doesn’t exist anymore) Fraser etc

But good point, for a young person River Island / Quiz etc might well have something (I am old).

The River Island in Telford is decent sized - two floors (I actually worked there when they built it about 20 years ago…) but I think men’s top floor - but you will just get so much more choice on stuff like dresses in Birmingham.

I went to Telford last year and spent an hour in the shopping centre. It's OK, but nothing special.

You might find what you need in Telford, but your chances of success will significantly rise if you go to Birmingham.

Thanks for your help. It's made me decide to ditch her club on Saturday morning and go to Birmingham. You've saved us a lot of disappointment. I appreciate it.
