Oh so smug, cosy and chintzy. Has any Ambridge character ever had to use a Foodbank, found out where the nearest Jobcentre is, applied for Personal Independence Allowance, Carer's Allowance, Attendance Allowance, Disability Benefit via those alledgedly dreadful assessments, tried to survive on Universal Credit, had the bailiffs hammering on the front door because of Council Tax arrears, had a CCJ coming through the letterbox or even tried fruitlessly to get a GP appointment before the next Xmas, etc, etc.

The only slight glitch on the Ambridge social horizon is Alice's booze problem, but even that's dealt with in a very civilised and almost dainty way. Doubtless she'll have a discreet Epiphany, one day, and it will be neatly tidied away.

Cured!

There were bailiffs within living memory of course - knocking on the doors of the local stately home … That was fun!
