What special thing to do in the South East on Saturday?

NC'd because this is potentially outing 😅

For a variety of reasons - mainly childcare related - DH and I have failed to plan anything for our wedding anniversary this weekend. It's ten years. We are basically free all day but do need to be home that night (no hotel stay). Budget of maybe £200 or slightly more for something really amazing. We can get into central London easily or travel to somewhere in Surrey/Berkshire/South Buckinghamshire/South Oxfordshire/Hampshire.

We are easy going but would like to feel we have 'done' something. There is not much at the cinema; we like the theatre but there isn't anything we are really wanting to see atm and prices seem high for something that we are going to 'just because'. Theatre recommendations welcome though. Just looking for some ideas really to celebrate a precious child-free day.

Does the restaurant in the dark appeal? Not sure how advanced you need to be to book a table.

I'll look it up - thanks! Any random ideas welcome, it might spark my imagination if nothing else

The Crazy Bear in Beaconsfield is pretty quirky, even better if you can stay over some time.

Moulin Rouge in London is fabulous.

Thanks for the ideas!

Guys and Dolls at the Bridge Theatre is just great. Especially if you can go immersive.

I love a visit plus lunch to a stately home or castle. Dh and I went to Hampton court for my birthday once. My faves though are Hever castle or Leeds castle both in Kent. Stunning grounds and I think one or both do boat trips... can't remember but I definitely went on a boat at one of them. Nice restaurants for lunch too.

Edit...just googled and both have boats

@piscofrisco I'm going to check out all your suggestions because they sound great!

Would this be good if you aren't particularly into Guys and Dolls though? Don't think I've ever seen it...

Hard for me to answer honestly because I really love the original movie and songs.

Objectively it's great theatre produced in a fantastic set.

Walk over the top of the O2 Arena?

A walk with llamas. Lots of places offer this, and it is good fun. The one we did included a picnic, which had a banana in the picnic box. All because a llama's favourite snack is, apparently, a banana skin!

An Xscape experience? We did the one in Milton Keynes, but I think there are others.

Buy yourself a new Monopoly set, and attempt to go to every tube station mentioned on the board. Needs thinking about in advance, eg hiring a bike to get between some stations.

Afternoon tea at the Savoy, or other top hotel.

Zoo keeper for a day experience, or an animal experience eg feeding the tigers.

Thanks for all these ideas, some of them are on our 'maybe' list - still looking for something that grabs me though if anyone has any additional ideas...
