I’m in Rhodes - where should I visit?

Ok so I’m in Rhodes for another week. Where are the must visits, must eat restaurants, etc, etc.
We are self catering and have a car.
We’ve been to Rhodes old town (twice) and to the 7 Springs.
Quite a few of the restaurants are closed as it is early in the season I think.

Spend a day driving around the island and stop at all the castles.

Butterfly Valley is lovely for a walk, even without butterflies. Make sure you get a Mountain Tea from the kiosk.

Maybe a day trip to Symi?

Never had a bad meal in Rhodes, our favourite is Anixis Taverna on the outskirts of Pefkos. Edited to add I think they reopened this week according to their Facebook.

We like to drive across the middle of the island too. I can’t remember which road it’s on but there’s a guy called Achilles who has a coffee and honey stall at the top of a big hill, great views and very welcoming.

Have you done Lindos, St Paul’s Bay and the other usual tourist hotspots?

Ooo definitely watching this thread as we've just booked to go to Rhodes in a few months

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 25/04/2024 16:08

Lindos. I remember visiting there in 1996 and it was lovely.
We're going to Rhodes in May so I'll be following the thread
How's the weather?

Prasonisi, where the two seas meet, is windy, but great fun watching the surfers and gliders.
Seven Springs
Butterfly Valley
Kalithea Springs
Rhodes Town
Lindos Acropolis and old town.

I love Rhodes!

Weather is warm but cloudy. We’ve had a Sahara sand haze for a few days now but hoping it will blow away soon. About 22 deg.

We went to Prasonisi today and watched some wind surfers. We walked across the causeway and up the hill of the little island opposite, then ate at the Taverna, but take €1 for the toilet!
Drove back over the hills, took a wrong turn and ended up down a dead end which as Fourni Beach - beautiful but a scary cliff side road to get there.
Saw the castle at Monolithos but didn’t walk up as DH has bad knees and they were done with walking - may go back another day, we have 5 days left.
@Worldgonecrazy we’re maybe going to your taverna recommendation tonight

Oh I'm thinking of booking Rhodes for October...but I've no clue about which resort? Is there a more sheltered area/coast?

Agreed. Lovely little town. Two beaches - one relaxing and one sporty, plus ancient ruins.

NuNameNuMe · 26/04/2024 16:12

The sheltered side is the one with Lindos and Faliraki on it.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 26/04/2024 16:15

Following as there in August

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 26/04/2024 16:23

Thank you @NuNameNuMe I'll look at booking there!

SuzanneV · 26/04/2024 16:34

Filerimos monastery, but only if you like peacocks!! Beautiful place, great views and lots of peacocks.

TheThingIsYeah · 26/04/2024 16:45

Lovely island and I was going to ask how the weather was as their season seems to be strictly May to Oct.

A taxi driver there said if you want to come in the winter you'd have to fly via Athens. I think the tourist industry is missing a bit of a trick as I had thr BBC weather app running for Lindos for months and the weather was much better in Nov/Dec than the Costas.

PizzaPastaWine · 26/04/2024 16:49

I'd head to Symi for the day. Its a 1 hour ferry from Rhodes Town.

DazedandConcerned · 26/04/2024 16:55

Let’s see…

Kalithea Springs is gorgeous and if you like cats the sanctuary is right there.

Embonas is wine region. Tasting is free along with snacks. I recommend Kounaki, Anastasia and Alexandris along with the Dionysus wine shop (sells amazing food and honey too).

Symi and/or Halki for a day out to a different island. Symi will definitely be busy right now unsure about Halki.

Pefkos is stunning if you head down south. You can also stop at Lindos and look at the acropolis there.

Mama Sofia in the Old Town is a good meal. And if you go to Pefkos I know all the restaurants there like the back of my hand and can find out what’s open if you feel like taking the drive.

I am always on Rhodes to be fair. So if you are looking for something specific let me know.

Anthony Quinn Bay, Ladiko, Nikolas Beach,

I was going to suggest this

katie20202 · 26/04/2024 17:16

I went to the outskirts of Faliraki last year when the fires happened!
Definitely go to butterfly valley the drive alone is stunning
Anthony Quinn bay
The water park is great day
Old town, they have stunning floating boat shops
Mama Sofia's in old town is lush

ReignOfError · 26/04/2024 17:43

The bee museum is surprisingly interesting if you happen to be out that way.

gettingolderbutcooler · 26/04/2024 17:49

Just had a week there. Very hot!! Chilly in the pools and the sea. Had a lovely mooch around old town and the acropolis (covered in scaffolding at the moment!).
We were near Ixia in a super hotel- but a shingle beach as on the west rather than east side (where Lindos is).
Everything seemed open!
