Why are Scottish Power reps lying?

I am with Scottish Power. Twice now I have had someone come to the door saying they need to book in a health and safety check on my meter. It is only when I question them that they admit they are trying to book me into install a new meter.
I hate this lying and so always say no. If you want to do something legit why do you have to lie about it?

I get letters on an almost weekly basis telling me I must change my meter as it's out of date and may be giving false readings. I just ignore them.
I even had one that gave a date when the installation would take place and it was up to me to cancel it. I did, but my OH said I should have just let them come to the door and then say I never made an appointment.
They work on scare tactics and try to make out that you HAVE to have a smart meter which is not true, although they claim it is

Personally I've never heard of health and safety checks on meters. Are you sure these people who have turned up at your door unannounced are definitely from Scottish Power?

As to Scottish Power I'm afraid not much would surprise me about them. I had a dreadful experience with them and they would have to be the only power supply company in existence for me to even consider being a customer of theirs again.

I need to change companies. I am so fed up of the blatant lying. No I can not be 100% sure they are legit. They have a badge on a lanyard but zero paperwork.

And the man tonight was so pushy. It was awful. Actually left me a bit shaky.

Leave as soon as you can OP, they are utter cunts. I had serious problems with them and they ripped me off by a lot. I’m going to contact them shortly to get the refund they’ve been forced to make. After my dealings with them I had no doubt they were criminals,

I get texts from scottish gas telling me dates theyll be in my area so i can book to get smart meter installed. No thanks!!

I get texts nearly every week from Scottish Power (supposedly) telling me how much my bill is and to click the link to pay. I haven’t been with Scottish Power for over 15 years!

They keep telling me it is mandatory to get a smart meter. About a year ago I got irritated enough to spend several hours on chat trying to communicate that their engineer had come to try to fit one but there wasn’t space next to my meter. They did not appear to have any record of his visit. I just ignore them now
