Has anyone been here and would you recommend?

We currently live 2.5 hours away from but DS keeps on asking if we can go but I'm wondering if it's worth the trip.

It's really fab, weird but fab! Do book, it's very popular. If I was travelling 2.5 hrs I'd probably want to make a weekend of it and spend a bit more time pottering around the dales.

I’ve not been but my kids have (trip with family members) they enjoyed it.

jackstini · 23/04/2024 17:31

We went when the kids were about 8/10 and it was a good half day out - quite odd but funny

I wouldn't drive 2.5 hours each way just to go there, but we were about 20 mins away staying in a lodge for a few days

I went last year and both the teen and the little one loved it! So much to discover!

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 23/04/2024 17:35

If on a weekend visit absolutely, i went many times as a kid/young adult and love it. Need to take my daughter actually!

passtheajax · 23/04/2024 17:41

Took ds before I knew he was autistic and he was terrified. Saying that, I'm nd as well and I was frightened at the end because I became disorientated and a bit claustrophobic as it was very dark.

Omg I LOVE that place so much! I went loads as a child and have taken my kids loads!
There are parts which are a little scary for younger children. However it depends on the child because some adore it.
It is definitely worth a trip. There's nowhere quite like it.
Make sure you actually look at the map a bit as I think some people miss whole sections out accidentally and wonder why there's not much there! As it's a maze you may need to go round several times to actually find all that you can find. There's several sections underground for example... but going thru different doors will lead you different routes that might miss some bits.
Bring spare clothes as there are a few parts where you get drenched from suprise jets or fountains.
It can be a full day out if the weather is nice as its a lovely place to sit and have lunch and a coffee too.

I've always wanted to go, it's on my bucket list.

I live about 90 miles away, so people do go on day trips , but it sounds like a long, tiring day.

Can you stay overnight and visit somewhere else too ?

covetingthepreciousthings · 23/04/2024 17:51

How old is DS? Some of it can be a bit scary.
Would recommend though, brilliant place. Very unusual!

distinctpossibility · 23/04/2024 17:54

It's good but not one of our best days out. It's not inexpensive either. However if you can make a bit of a weekend of it and visit some other things around that part of Yorkshire it's a good way to fill 4 or 5 hours.

GoodOldEmmaNess · 23/04/2024 18:07

I and my children enjoyed it (years ago now - not sure if anything has changed).
But it isn't a big enough attraction to be worth a 2.5 hour trip. It is one of those things that has all of its pleasure from feeling almost incidental, unanticipated, an unlooked for small joy. Best done as an adjunct to something else in the area.

scrapsontheside · 23/04/2024 19:17

It's rubbish! Expensive and kind of grubby. I definitely wouldn't travel two hours plus to go there.
I seem to be in the minority though.

BirtyDird · 23/04/2024 19:19

Similar to the most people, it's good but I live the same time away as you and I wouldn't just travel for that, but I'd definitely visit if in the area.
