What is this scab? Is it a bite?

This might be completely unrelated but my little boy had his jabs a couple of weeks ago and the measles one is a live vaccine. I noticed a couple of days ago (see pic below) that he had a small scab on the back of his arm. I just got him in the shower and noticed that it has now doubled in size, looks very sore and he has tiny little spots surrounding it.

Any ideas of what it could be??

That needs to be seen ASAP.

MsFaversham · 23/04/2024 16:44

Get that looked at.

Could it be impetigo?

Ok I will head to the walk in clinic. @KittyCollar nobody in the house has impetigo but certainly looks like it could be.

Is that where he was injected? You need to get that checked out straightaway.

Skiphopbump · 23/04/2024 16:46

Get it checked, it’s unusual for that to happen after a vaccination.

My son had it when he was primary school age. Cleared up with something OTC from the chemist x

My son had something like that near his elbow. Turned out it was a bite that caused a cyst under the skin. Took antihistamines and when it looked infected some antibiotics but nothing seemed to help it. It would start to dry up and then he'd knock it and the scab would come off and there'd be this deep hole. Kept going to the drs and all they said was that it would take a while to heal and if it doesn't then they might have to dig the cyst out.

My mum ended up recommending putting tea tree oil on once a day and within weeks it disappeared ! He has been left with a little scar but it's fine now.

I definitely recommend getting it checked out but if it does end up being from a bite and told to 'wait it out' i would suggest a dab of tea tree oil watered down in it

No it’s not the injection site @WolfFoxHare

Just about to leave so will update shortly.

I’ve had a google and leaning towards impetigo @KittyCollar - thank you for suggesting x

Well that’s good, I think. I was worried about an infection at the injection site. Glad you’re going get it looked at, hopefully nothing serious. Do update us!
