Fair enough! I think it was Vinette I was picturing in my mind when I was reading the books, though.

mum2jakie · 28/04/2024 10:33

Ah, 'my' Donna is quite young, large and buxom! Can't quite visualise the right actor for her just yet!

CalmConfident · 02/05/2024 12:38

Please can we have Bill Nighy for Stephen

Ooh yes, good call!

I thought Robert Glenister as Ron. Maybe Celia Imrie as Joyce?

I told you your choice for Joyce was inspired, just read on the internet that Celia Imrie has been confirmed as Joyce!
I really hope Robert Glenister is considered for Ron too.
Do you work undercover in casting? 😜

stormsurfer · 21/05/2024 10:26

Ooooo go me! I think pierce is already confirmed as Ron though?

Notonthestairs · 21/05/2024 10:36

Very pleased to read here that Celia Imrie is Joyce. Loved her since Victoria Wood/Acorn Antiques.

CorylusAgain · 21/05/2024 11:12

Celia Imrie is a good choice!

I don't think the casting of Stephen will be such a 'big' name. Stephen is an important character in the world of the Thursday Murder Club, but doesn't feature so prominently in the action.

RonnieOmelettes · 21/05/2024 12:11

Oh I ADORE Celia Imrie, this is great news.

CalmConfident · 21/05/2024 13:11

I think big names in smaller parts & cameo are possible with ensemble films. They can fit it between the other jobs! I’m not giving up hope yet ☺️

lazarusb · 21/05/2024 13:48

Happy with Celia Imrie as Joyce 🙂

Brilliant casting! Looking forward to this series already!

McDonnellsfriend789 · 15/06/2024 09:47

Just listened to ‘The rest is Entertainment‘, How to make a billion in showbiz’ episode and I could hardly believe my ears …

… apparently Celia Imrie is funding a lot of the film and has invested $35 million dollars 😳

I could be wrong but it sounded as though Richard was being serious when he casually mentioned that sum.

The Crown was obviously more lucrative than I thought!

Edited to say: I adore Pierce Brosnan and can’t wait to see what he makes of the role.

McDonnellsfriend789 · 15/06/2024 13:26

So sorry! Please ignore previous post!

I am getting Celia Imrie mixed up with Imelda Staunton!

Many apologies! 🙈

I will report it and get it removed!

McDonnellsfriend789 · 15/06/2024 13:37

Celia is providing the funding and appearing in one of the leading roles though!

Was she in the Crown; I’m not sure?

Richard Osman was just being funny @McDonnellsfriend789 following them talking about Hollywood big names self funding movies. Celia Imrie isn't putting in any money.
The rights to the films were bought by Steven Spielberg's company.

Apologies if I sound snippy - I don't mean to! I just wanted to clarify.

CalmConfident · 19/06/2024 10:02

These maybe?

Henry Lloyd-Hughes - Bogdan
Danny Mays - Chris
David Tennant - Father Mackie?

who else is left? The murdered chap? the fireman that big Dan takes over from? Some muscles?

CalmConfident · 19/06/2024 10:05

Hang on…henri could be Jason?

Oh my goodness CorylusAgain not snippy at all; very grateful for clarification! I listened to the snippet out of context and stupidly took RO’s dead-panning at face value! I thought it was a wild sum! 😳😃

Mind you, having Stephen Spielberg buying the rights is not too shabby (if that bit is true!! 😂)

CorylusAgain · 19/06/2024 17:46

I'm glad @McDonnellsfriend789 - It can sometimes be easy to misinterpret the tone of a post 😊

The growing list of cast members is exciting!

Beccaboo0979 · 03/07/2024 21:29

Or Ricky Tomlinson, someone a bit more working class/rougher. Brosnan is too preened/smooth to be believable as a working class, football mad union rep.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 25/07/2024 14:18

Reviving this thread for a bit more speculation about who's playing which part! This is the cast announced so far. Filming is going on at the moment. Scheduled to go out on Netflix some time in the second half of 2025, so we have a long wait ahead.

It's nice that Richard Osman's wife has a part!

It's been a while since I read the first book. Is Patrice in it? Are they (understandably) pulling in bits from later books? I'm assuming Daniel Mays is Chris and Richard E. Grant will be the landowner. Baffled by which part is going to David Tennant, unless it's Father Mackie, but he's too young for that, surely? Who will play Bogdan?
