Richard Osman has released the cast so far, guessing the ones that have signed on the dotted line.

Elizabeth Helen Mirren

Ibrahim Ben Kinsley

Ron Pierce Brosman

Joyce unknow yet, but someone that has been mentioned to him a lot.

I just googled Shaun Dooley and I agree he'd make an excellent Chris but he might be 10 years to old so not sure.

Chris O'Dowd would be a more perfect Chris

SomethingIn · 24/04/2024 08:35

Bogdan is a tricky one to cast.

Might be nice to have a new face we've not really seen before for that.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/04/2024 08:42

Donna's mum could be Clare Perkins, perhaps. Can't remember if the ages would match up.

SpringLobelia · 24/04/2024 08:46

Oh yes- Clare Perkins is exactly who I see as Patrice.

Does anyone wonder if the decision-makers lurk on threads like this to get ideas? I mean- we are making their jobs much easier!

mum2jakie · 24/04/2024 08:50

Just so excited that the film is definitely going ahead! I can't see Pierce Brosnan as an aged belligerent union rep but willing to give him a go... Ray Winstone is the bad guy in the Gentlemen on Netflix and maybe a bit too overblown for the role. Isn't Ron described as being a little guy? I certainly visualise him as small and feisty!

SpringLobelia · 24/04/2024 08:57

Bob Hoskins would have been a good Ron IMO. I had not realised he had passed away.

MuscariFan · 24/04/2024 09:09

I think Stephen Graham would have been a great Ron.

Bit young maybe

I think Stephen Graham would have been a great Ron.

But young. But could work at Ron's son (can't remember his name)

SomethingIn · 24/04/2024 14:55

Stephen Graham could be Chris but never Ron

I agree that Lesley Manville seems too young to play Joyce plus she’s just in everything! I feel like come on, there must be other actors. Like others I can see Penelope Wilton making a good Joyce.
It’s funny that pp says Shaun Dooley isn’t a big name & I guess he isn’t but again he seems to be in everything I watch. I agree he would be good but I wonder if he’s got a bit too much of a cynical, world weary edge. Also in one of the later books when Chris has lost weight don’t they think he would be a good presenter? I got the feeling he was meant to be a bit handsome maybe? Not sure who I can see playing him though.

He's a big enough name in British TV but an international film audience would not know him at all. But it's not the main part so it shouldn't matter too much.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/04/2024 17:54

I could see Ron played by that actor whose name I never, ever remember who was Filch in the Harry Potter films and whatsisname in Game of Thrones - off to google - Walder Frey in GoT - David Bradley! He might be a bit too old at 82 now.

GoingUpUpUp · 24/04/2024 18:11

Oh yeah Stephen Graham could work as Jason!

cheapskatemum · 24/04/2024 18:32

James Norton as Bogdan? I'd watch it for that Grin

Peanutbutterfan · 24/04/2024 19:06

I was thinking Tom Hardy as Jason.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 24/04/2024 19:08

Peanutbutterfan · 24/04/2024 19:06

I was thinking Tom Hardy as Jason.

Oh really good shout.

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 24/04/2024 19:11

PB as Ron - can’t see it! I had him down as a small rotund rough at the edges man - Alex Norton type (ex Taggart).

HelloGoodby · 24/04/2024 21:01

Bogdan needs to be gorgeous, hard agree.
Donna I like the detective from Professor T.

SpringLobelia · 24/04/2024 21:16

what about connie jackson (Is that her name?) i reckon Samantha Womack. Blonde, absolutely beautiful and smart.

SpringLobelia · 24/04/2024 21:17

That will be film 2 though tbf.

Praleprink · 24/04/2024 22:51

I think Pierce will surprise you! Being a chameleon is his job!

Fifiesta · 25/04/2024 11:38

stormsurfer · 23/04/2024 21:03

I thought Robert Glenister as Ron. Maybe Celia Imrie as Joyce?

@ stormsurfer I totally agree, I think your suggestions are spot on.

Robert Glennister can do every accent under the sun, ( he is totally brilliant with all the characters on audible, reading the Strike series). He also can be made to look slightly seedy, which is how I think of Ron, at times.
Joyce Is nuanced character, on the face of it she is hilariously naive on numerous occasions, but that aside is very much the wily old bird, and plays on it, lulling others into a false sense of security. Celia Imrie would be able to nail that.

stormsurfer · 25/04/2024 12:16

@Fifiesta I love how you express that! Exactly what I was thinking but didn't explain!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 25/04/2024 20:37

Donna - Vinette Robinson?

mum2jakie · 27/04/2024 19:34

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 25/04/2024 20:37

Donna - Vinette Robinson?

She's 43? I'm sure Donna is only supposed to be in her twenties?
