Yes, they would normally pop over so they can do a quote. Unless it's something really straightforward.

Yes they will come and price up. It helps if you can give as full description as you can over phone initially and then they come to visit.

Be sure to get multiple quotes. I recently had a boiler replaced and quotes ranged from £2600 to £3850 with the cheapest being the better boiler model and longer warranty (all accredited installers). One even gave me an 'open quote' as he felt I could have a problem with a pipe - I didn't.
