Does Ryanair let you change seats ?

Paid for seats and flying 6 am tomorrow
There's 10 rows free so far and someone has got the seat next to us.
Does anyone know can you change seats?
Also if you can what's the latest I could change ?
Wake up at 3am tomorrow and change to a free row ?

Not everyone will have pre booked seats though so other rows will still more than likely be full!

pinkyoromise · 21/04/2024 10:16

Won't they have checked in with it being 6am tomorrow?

Are you concerned the person sat next to you might smell, or be obnoxious in some other way? It might be their lucky seat or some other reason.

BusyCM · 21/04/2024 10:18

They'll likely spread people out anyway, the plane has to be balanced so just ask when you board.

pinkyoromise · 21/04/2024 10:18

@LlynTegid we just want the space
If there's gonna be rows of empty seats why not move
Plus it's 6am so might nap
Ryanair is tight at the best of times

I've never been on an airline that doesn't let you move to free seats, usually after take off though once the seat belt lights go off

Moier · 21/04/2024 10:26

You wait until you are up in the air.. if there is any empty seats once the seat belt sign as come off.. you can just move to those seats..some seats are not allocated until people check in their luggage.. especially those flying solo who don't mind where they seat so don't pay for a seat. We fly with Ryanair about 8 times per year..

pinkyoromise · 21/04/2024 10:32

Don't you have to check in with Ryanair online or face a charge at airport ?

OP posts:
Hoppinggreen · 21/04/2024 10:36

Some people do check in at the airport and sometimes Ryanair change things around, last time we fly with Ryanair the row we booked didnt exist on the plane they were using *found this out at the gate) and we were dotted all over the place.
Best thing to do is wait until you are in the air and seatbelts off and then move or you could move now and then when you get on find there are no empty seats next to you

You can check in when you dropp off your luggage, same as with any other airline.
Usually there is an online/ computer thingy you can use.

They do prefer you to do it via the app in advance, especially if you don't put anything into the hold.

poppym12 · 21/04/2024 10:40

Once you've checked in online your seat is allocated. Sometimes airlines let you move seats once the seatbelt light has gone off but not always because of the balance load.

Moier · 21/04/2024 11:05

Why not book an Isle and window seat? Nine times out of ten the middle seat will be empty.. if it isn't you can swop with the person in the middle seat..
But honestly if only two of you.. you have to take the risk someone will be sat next to you. After all the flight is cheap enough.
We fly on Thursday to Lanzarote and return flight was £52 each.
We don't pay for seats because l get special assistance.. and I'm only allowed a window seat due to being disabled.
The cabin crew will look for 3 empty seats though and move us to be more comfortable.
So those who book special assistance their seats will still look empty. There is allocated certain rows for Special assistance.
I honestly can't see what your problem is you are both sat together.
Everyone would love an empty seat next to them.
What makes you priority?

If you don't pay for a particular seat, you can't check in until 24 hours before the flight, so loads of time yet.

There's probably a lot of people waiting until the last minute, hoping that other non payers will check in, take the middle seats that you get if you don't pay, leaving them with window or aisle seats for free.

Moier · 21/04/2024 11:09

Also it will cost you again to change seats.

pinkyoromise · 21/04/2024 13:49

@Moier who said I thought I was priority ?
I'm paying for seats
So if I'm paying I have the right to pick any seat I want
If there's some free then I'm gonna pick those
Why not

mitogoshi · 21/04/2024 14:13

I don't always check in a full 24 hours ahead and dp regularly books flights the day before for work. Turn up and see tomorrow

RampantIvy · 21/04/2024 14:17

Why not wait until you are airborne then move seats when the seat belt light goes off.

I have done this on a half empty flight to Lapland. The views over a snowy Norway were spectacular.

ChimneyPot · 21/04/2024 14:24

If you haven’t checked in yet you go in to manage booking on the app you should be able to change seats for free to another that is the same price or less.

pinkyoromise · 21/04/2024 17:19

@Moier yeah ours are around the same price to Gran Canaria too

Last time I flew with Ryanair on a half empty plane they taped off all the empty rows so we were all squished together. I was gutted as travelling with a toddler on my knee.

But you said you have already paid and picked your seats???
So l don't understand why you want to change?
Why didn't you pick the seats you wanted in the first place?
Leave the empty rows for the priority disabled people.. who like me need more room due to an injury.

TakeOnFlea · 22/04/2024 00:58

If you've paid for seats why didn't you just select the ones you wanted when you booked?
