I've done myself an injury in the night!

I'm early 40s and this is the first time I've 'done something to my back'. I rolled over in bed in the early hours, when I felt a twinge and pain in the right side of my back. More towards the side. It now hurts to change position, sneeze, or walk. What on earth have I done?

It's the sort of catch your breath pain. Also hurts to talk. I've asked my DH to fetch me some ibuprofen. Fingers crossed.

Take paracetamol as well op. You can take them both. Hot shower and rest today. You may have pulled a muscle. On a side note welcome to the club of getting older and hurting for no apparent reason.

Cadela · 21/04/2024 08:47

Oh yikes sounds like a muscle spasm. They are horrible.

If it gets worse see if you can call out of hours and get some muscle relaxants.

Best thing to do is keep gently moving - I find if I lay still it gets worse. Obviously if the pain is severe don’t push yourself. A hot bath can help, and some deep heat.

They usually get better in a couple of days. Hope it’s not too bad!

@Cadela I did wonder about keeping moving so will give it a go once pain killers have kicked in. Thanks 😊
@susiedaisy1912 that was my exact thought. I went roller skating on Friday night and was fine, and here I am on Sunday in pain from simply rolling over in bed. A new excitement to be had: back pain activity roulette!

How are you today op?

Goddessonahighway · 22/04/2024 21:57

It's definitely eased today, thanks @susiedaisy1912 . Haven't needed to take any pain killers today and it only hurts to twist. I think I got off lightly! I'm thinking about starting a pilates class to try and avoid this again.

I woke up once convinced I had a stroke
No, just slept weirdly and my arm was totally dead. Then I turned over and hit myself in my face with my dead arm (imagine Harry Potter when he has no bones in his arm...) and gave myself a black eye

My boss was ConfusedHmm

Glad it's on the mend.

I pulled a muscle in my stomach rolling over in bed a couple of months ago. The pain!! All fine after a couple of weeks but bloody hell - I rolled over!
And I keep telling myself that 36 is still young 😂
