Would really appreciate advice from wise mn.
My dd is almost 6, tall, 117cm, inner leg measurement is 49cm.
Halfords advised 20 inch wheels- her toes just about touch the floor and also she can't ride a bike so these were just way too big.

I presumed 18 inch but a few friends have got 16 inch. Halfords said this is ridiculously too small, her feet are flat on the floor but it did look a bit clown bike. However I really want her to feel confident on a bike to be able to ride without stabilisers quickly. Should I go 16 or 18?

Borrow a 16", or use bike club. You want confidence when first on pedals, and for most children that means feet flat on the ground. DS1 has been cycling since he was 3, but he's just now (and 5 and a bit) got to the stage where he doesn't mind his feet first. Our friends went for a bike the "right size" then ended up borrowing one of ours for a couple of months, their DD is now flying on the bigger bike but she did need that bit of time on the smaller bike.

How fast is your dd growing? When will she use the bike? Summer holidays by which time she will probably have grown or straight away?

I'd go for an 18" or a 20". My ds used to shoot up in spring - fresh air & sunshine, and the larger frame was always a good idea.

Can she put her feet flat with the 18? If yes then it’s fine.
