National Arboretum, Büro upon Trent - best time to go?

A neighbour of mine who is a bit like an aunt to me was saying today that she would love to go to the National Arboretum in Burton upon Trent. I'd be happy to take her as a treat but am wondering when the best time to visit would be? She'll probably only ever go once so not sure whether spring, summer or autumn? Any advice appreciated, thank you

I'd go in autumn when leaves are turning - a warm day in early october maybe. What a lovely idea.

Yes that was my initial thought @AmaryllisChorus, thank you - then I wondered what it might be like now in spring when the weather is nicer.

I'd go in the autumn given a choice.

I don't know the place, but looking it up see it's a memorial - maybe ask her is there any specific anniversary that's important to her that she'd like to mark. If it's a more general visit, trees are very nearly as varied in colour in spring / early summer as in autumn, and can be sweet scented as well - and the whole place will look wonderful after a fairly grim winter.

I've been several times over the years, and I think either late Spring or early Autumn is best. You can go round on a small land train if your neighbour has mobility issues. It's over a large area and there's plenty of walking. Facilities are very good and it's well worth a visit. It's just outside Alrewas on the A38, so a few miles from Burton. HTH.

PS. If you are going out for the day, Barton Marina which is also just off the A38, but nearer Burton is a nice diversion.

Thank you all. Barton Marina looks like a nice addition to the trip thanks
