Being a POC and looking for a job

In the 21st century, do you think people of colour are still discriminated against? For a while now I’ve always thought we phased this out. But I’ve had discussions with other people as a poc and they say to me they’ve felt very prejudiced in their careers and they’re young and in their 30s

They all said getting big career progression is too tough in our society and we don’t have much representation at the top? Thoughts?

The data and stats suggest it is still a problem

I don't but I'm public sector where the workforce seems more diverse although I'm in the minority of senior people. In fact I can't think of another female POC as a head of department or higher in my large organisation.

Discrimination as a woman is what I face the most and have faced a lot.

Yes, definitely

You might want to get this moved to Black Mumsnetters. Before a lot of people without lived experience tell you it’s not a problem.
Ax pp have said it’s sector variable but the data suggests it’s still a thing. Particularly C suite, non public sector.

Yes its still a problem

The company I work for calls its senior management diverse but in reality what that looks like is majority white men (and majority straight at that), one or two white women, and one or two black or asian men.

The idea of a black woman being a senior manager seems to have passed them by entirely.

Having said that the current place I work is problematic, other places Ive worked have been better but Ive never worked anywhere with a female POC member of the c-suite

OP mentioned POC which also includes Asian people so I don’t think it’s fit for our Black MNetters board. Seems to be more of a general conversation then it being solely for Black people
