12 year old underground this weekend

I can’t seem to find the answer on TfL. What’s the best way for a 12 year old to travel on the underground Fri-Monday?

I’ve registered my debit card with TfL for me so I can tap my card to get through each station (is that right?)

Ive also got an Oyster card, which I can top up, linked to the same account. Shall I let DD use that? Does it let you have two methods per account (assume so!) And if so, how much do I top up on the card for the 3 days? We’ll be in zone 1 and travelling all over. Dont want to put too much on but equally not enough.

Sorry if these feel like really obvious questions. I am in the marathon so now just working out logistics as she’ll be with friends Sunday but I want her to pay her own way around etc.

You can use both cards, as long as you are each consistent about which one you use. You can get a refund of any credit you have left on the Oyster card.

Have a great race!

Thank you, that’s what I thought. I’ll have my debit card and she’ll have the oyster. Mine is free on Sunday ☺️

Fab! Have you run it before? It's an amazing experience - if you have your name on your front people will give you extra encouragement 😊

The 12 year old will be eligible for a young visitor discount. You can get this by getting a staff member to register your oyster card as a young visitor card for the duration of your visit (they can register it for up to 7 days at a time). This gives them half price travel (tops out at about 3.30 a day as I recall)

There is also a daily cap on travel. If you only go in Zone 1 & 2 it’s £8.50 per day for an adult.

Thank you so much! I’ll find someone when I get to Euston and get them to link it to a child. I did wonder that, I’d be paying for as an adult as it my old Oyster card. Will see what they can do.

First marathon so excited. Been a spectator a few times so know the atmosphere will be amazing. Already got my name printed (front and back 😂)
