Looking for a gift for a relative max £20.
Doesn't drink or eat sweet stuff, Doesn't wear makeup, no hobbies, doesn't read, sensible and a bit boring - worst thing is I have 2 of these gifts to buy as she's one of twins but hoping to buy them different things so any tips gratefully received.

Crikey! I'm only a little bit younger but these two have one foot in the grave!

Do they like gardening?

So what do they do all day when they’re not at work? Stare at the wall?

TerfoSupportCat · 18/04/2024 15:54

Amazon voucher so they can buy what they wish.

I'm willing to bet she has a secret life you know nothing about.

UnravellingTheWorld · 18/04/2024 15:57

Experience day? Afternoon tea, or day out in botanic gardens or something

I didn't want to sound ageist as they've always been like this so the birthday number is probably a bit irrelevant - in fact they look and seem younger from living such a life. I should probably have said "someone who's a bit like a nun"
Sadly they don't like gardening.

I hope so. I would absolutely love that to be true.

Something like this from M&S? £20.
And there is a Coffee version, Percy Pig version and chocolate version too.

Marbledleaves678 · 18/04/2024 16:08

M&S gift vouchers.

They can then choose a treat or use it to buy something mundane.

BeaLola · 18/04/2024 16:08

Random idea but what about a ticket to one of those cinema live stream events like the Ballet or Opera ?

Ohyoudodoyou · 18/04/2024 16:13

Memberships for art galleries/art house cinema
Really nice cocktail/champagne glasses
Charlotte tilbury stuff
House related art eg those monopoly posters with address etc
Band t shirt
Beach towel with favourite musician/band on it
Engraved vase
Really posh chocs think Paul Young

^^ all gifts for my 50/60'year old friends!

Ohyoudodoyou · 18/04/2024 16:15

Yeah now I've just read your OP properly, maybe M and S gift in the post or something from Not in the high street.
Engraved vase always goes down well with everyone as somewhere to out all those m and s flowers! 😁

HuntingoftheSnark · 18/04/2024 16:19

Often criticised as boring on here, but a nice scented candle?

Bumblebeeinatree · 18/04/2024 16:25

Perfume, bubble bath, nice shampoo and conditioner, soap. Pair of gloves, hat, scarf, slippers, bed socks, slipper socks, dressing gown, pot plant like an orchid.

Trenda · 18/04/2024 16:26

For the 60 year old twin birthdays I have coming up I will be putting money in an envelope. The twins I know are the opposite of these two but prefer to use birthday money for big treats as they know exactly what to buy and from where.
I approve of this wholeheartedly as the money isn't wasted on things they don't want and I don't waste my time and energy trying to find the perfect gift. I may go all out and find a nice presentation envelope and card though.

Mrsjayy · 18/04/2024 16:30

I think you should just get them£20 worth of flowers get them different bouquets, they don't seem to be into much and they are probably too old for another scarf or "nice mug"

Maddy70 · 18/04/2024 16:31

Cinema vouchers
Afternoon tea
Voucher for manicure
Nice scented candle

woopdedoodle · 18/04/2024 16:32

My sister bought me a key ring made from coins from my birth year , I was 60 last year , and yes know I can be a problem. I love it and use it every day.

If your budget stretched to it, good silk scarfs, I have several and wear them a lot as they are warm and don't get into a wild tangle like wool ones do.

Wendysfriend · 18/04/2024 16:40

I have a few people like this in my life. Tbh I've gone down every route regarding gifts, I thought vouchers would be best but I'd find them shoved in a drawer and they'd say they weren't near that particular store. Flowers, the water would not get changed, hampers did work for a bit especially ones where you could choose your contents of things they like but they're expensive.

In the end cash worked the best, they'd always mention what they bought with it, easier for them to stick it in a purse or wallet and not forget about it. Even if they use it for the supermarket shopping or a bill, I was happy that they were able to use it.

StormySam · 18/04/2024 17:07

Thank you everyone. Lots of good ideas. It's nice to get a feel for what people would actually want/use.

Air rifle.

All I can think of is Patty and Selma types looking out of an upstairs window taking pot shots at the neighbours!

Churchview · 18/04/2024 17:20

Lottery tickets or scratch cards.
