Gifts for 60 year old women

Looking for a gift for a relative max £20.
Doesn't drink or eat sweet stuff, Doesn't wear makeup, no hobbies, doesn't read, sensible and a bit boring - worst thing is I have 2 of these gifts to buy as she's one of twins but hoping to buy them different things so any tips gratefully received.

So what do they do all day when they’re not at work? Stare at the wall?

I wondered that too. 😂

StMarieforme · 18/04/2024 20:24

I'm 61.

I love rock festivals, holidays in America, running half marathons, gaming.

You don't need to ask about gifts for 60yr olds, you need to ask about gifts for people with no interests or hobbies!!

Why are you friends with her and buying her gifts if you think she's boring with no interests? Do you even like her?

Tontostitis · 18/04/2024 20:27

Clarins hand and nail cream it's bloody lovely and a bit expensive to buy for myself. About £18 last time I bought it

KirstenBlest · 18/04/2024 20:27

M&S voucher for £20.

Ophy83 · 18/04/2024 20:44

I'd go traditional, with a treat version of something that they usually eat

Cheese and biscuits from here:
https://www.finecheese.co.uk/bath-shop
or from a local deli or farm shop

Tea and/or coffee from Fortnum's

If they like tea, maybe a nice tea pot or tea cup with a strainer in it to make fancy loose leaf tea.

Or a tea cosy (this shop in Edinburgh does the very best granny knit tea cosies I've ever seen https://www.treasuretrove-edinburgh.com/our-shop/)

Bath Shop | The Fine Cheese Co

I know a few people like this. I’d go very generic flowers or house plant. Once a nice tea cup when down well. Or just put money in a card.

Cinema vouchers
Afternoon tea
Oodie
Nice candle
Clarins hand cream or shower gel

Agreed, I'm a bit younger but why is it always smellier, bed socks and candles. I would hate that.

An M&S or John Lewis voucher would be best. As PP suggested they can buy food or put towards home stuff or clothes or flowers

anyonesellinganark · 18/04/2024 21:59

Whoops, supposed to say *smellies

ZsaZsaTheCat · 18/04/2024 22:08

A cinema ticket to see ‘ Immaculate’

Perfume, bubble bath, nice shampoo and conditioner, soap. Pair of gloves, hat, scarf, slippers, bed socks, slipper socks, dressing gown, pot plant like an orchid.

I'll be 60 this year. No offence, but I'd be quietly very disappointed if I received any of the things on this list. Bed socks Confused

I'd be delighted with a voucher or book token, or being taken out to afternoon tea or something.

DrJoanAllenby · 18/04/2024 22:12

I would say to them, 'Look, Fanny and Gertie! I have no idea what to get you so rather than waste money on something you won't like or use is there anything you would like or do you have a charity that I can donate to in your name?'

determinedtomakethiswork · 18/04/2024 22:27

I'm trying to imagine anyone who would like bed socks! There must be something they like!

CherrySocks · 18/04/2024 22:33

In that general age group, only thing I'd like from suggestions is M&S voucher. But can't you ask someone who knows them better?
Or ask each of them what the other one would like!

socialdilemmawhattodo · 18/04/2024 22:34

I'm 60 next year. Just starting to really relive my life after divorce and family. I am hoping to move soon, so possessions, however kindly thought through, but truthfully most of the suggestions upthread are ghastly, would not be (internally) welcome. What I have enjoyed most , particularly post COVID is seeing people. Could you meet with the twins for a day out? £20 is not a huge budget - sorry if that offends- but it does fall rather into token gift. I would rather have a great evening or day of good company.

AppleCrumbleTea · 18/04/2024 22:39

Posh hot water bottle and socks

some mugs

😳i'm quite partial to them. They're not for everyone though 😂

Students and young people living in chilly rented houses, IME!

Hm, I'm 63 and agree with vouchers for somewhere like M&S or JL (if they have one near), or a nice houseplant.

Factsareimportantplease · 18/04/2024 23:28

Clitoral stimulator in different colours, one each.

VeryQuaintIrene · 18/04/2024 23:30

I turn 60 in a couple of months and am crying with laughter at some of these terrible suggestions (no offense, they sound v hard to buy for!) The air rifle and clitoral stimulator definitely sound more promising.

Bouledeneige · 18/04/2024 23:57

I just had my 60th party. I had some brilliant presents.

Most appreciated gifts:

  • Buddha head for the garden
  • bracelet, necklace, earrings
  • massage/beauty voucher
  • beautiful jug
  • wine glasses
  • Wine Society membership
  • bag
  • Phlur fragrance
  • Persiana cook book
  • gin
-champagne
  • theatre tickets

Sort of depends how well people know you. I had one scented candle and some room fragrance - but that's quite a boring present.

maudelovesharold · 19/04/2024 00:10

‘Look, Fanny and Gertie!

They’re 60, not 106! 😂

She’s and her twin are op’s relatives, not friends.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 19/04/2024 00:23

Flowers, delivered. Can be bought online for under £20 as I just looked for you.

or M&S voucher as they can be used in store or online, and of course if too many bed socks are chosen then she can add her own payment to it :)
