Gifts for 60 year old women

Looking for a gift for a relative max £20.
Doesn't drink or eat sweet stuff, Doesn't wear makeup, no hobbies, doesn't read, sensible and a bit boring - worst thing is I have 2 of these gifts to buy as she's one of twins but hoping to buy them different things so any tips gratefully received.

@StormySam , but the age was relevant in that it's a big birthday.
If you'd said 30th or 40th birthday that might have been overlooked.

I'm not sure that the gifts suggested would have been different if you'd not specified the age.

I just had my 60th party. I had some brilliant presents.

Most appreciated gifts:

  • Buddha head for the garden
  • bracelet, necklace, earrings
  • massage/beauty voucher
  • beautiful jug
  • wine glasses
  • Wine Society membership
  • bag
  • Phlur fragrance
  • Persiana cook book
  • gin
-champagne
  • theatre tickets

Sort of depends how well people know you. I had one scented candle and some room fragrance - but that's quite a boring present.

I am turning 60 soon and I wouldn't want any of those things. I don't want stuff so I always ask for consumables, chocs, flowers, nice hand cream, maybe a plant or a book, or a nice lunch out.
Op I would just go for flowers, even if they aren't bothered with them at least they look and smell nice and brighten up a place.

I think you're right. Flowers are a harmless gift. Even if they're not to taste they don't last too long

I don't see flowers as a gift, I see them as a gesture.

Uricon2 · 19/04/2024 18:26

What did I get for my 60th.

Gin
Champagne
Alexander McQueen scarf
Diptyque candles and associated things because I love them
Antique silver brooches (ditto)
More gin
Sloe gin
Doulton Lambeth vase (I collect Lambeth)
Hermes perfume I wear
Fortnums hamper.
Cheese hamper

(Realise this sounds a bit show off, sorry, but all much appreciated and listing them has made me realise how lucky I am for such thoughtfulness)

@StormySam give them flowers. Can't possibly offend.

RaininSummer · 19/04/2024 18:36

I like flowers but would be very disappointed with them as a 60th gift as i would like something to keep. If they came with a really nice vase it would be a nice gift.

Ask each twin what the other one would like. Job done. Failing that, M&S vouchers.

DilemmaDelilah · 19/04/2024 18:55

Theatre tickets so they can go out together.

In this case the op doesn't seem to know what their individual tastes are. I think there's some validity to thinking about age if you're trying to choose a 'generic' gift ... by your 60s, most people will have enough 'stuff', won't want knicknacks, are likely to have kit related to any hobbies.

Absolutely! That makes sense to me.

Why are posters getting at op for not getting to know them well enough? She might only have just joined the family. Or these relatives might live far away and be on a rare visit. Or she might be buying the presents on behalf of another family member who is too frail to do so. We don’t know the circumstances!

Jeez you can’t even ask for present suggestions on here nowadays without attracting flack!

Btw I’m nearly sixty and I would love an M&S voucher to do with what I want. If that makes me boring, too bad!

Marplesyrup · 20/04/2024 10:42

This is a good idea…

Also Le creuset spoon rest ……
Emma bridgewater mug (£25 but sometimes have offers)……

Rituals shower gel/candle ….

Cluelessaf · 20/04/2024 10:54

Nice pen.

KirstenBlest · 20/04/2024 11:51

I definitely would not want a Le Creuset mug or an Emma Bridgwater mug or spoon rest.
Something like a pen or purse is too personal. I've been given some but I never used them.
