Urgent passport help

Intheair24 · 18/04/2024 13:55

Ds who's 17 does not have a passport he's applying for his first one. But he needs it ASAP. DD is going away on 18th of May. And the person who was going with her is not going now. Dd has no one to ask so DS it going to try and go. He can't fast track as that's only for renewal... is there anything we can do?

If he has never had a passport before then the chances of him getting it in time are very slim. Especially this time of year, which is when they start getting busy.

Overthebow · 18/04/2024 13:59

I don’t think there’s much you can do as it’s not a renewal, but it’s possible that if he puts the application in today it will be fine in time, the waits are a lot shorter now.

CornishPorsche · 18/04/2024 13:59

He's a child so you can fast track his first passport in a week, but you'll need to have a face to face appointment.

Get a passport urgently

Renew or replace a passport urgently with the 1 day Premium service or the 1 week Fast Track service.

He can get a one week fast track if he’s applying for a child passport:

The only thing you can do is to get it submitted today, maybe using the post office check and send https://www.postoffice.co.uk/identity/first-adult-passport And cross your fingers. Average current turnaround for 1st adult passport is also us 2 weeks according to a website I just looked at and passport office webpage says 3 weeks.

Apply for your first adult passport | Post Office®

We can look after your new passport application with the Post Office® passport check & send service. Follow these steps to meet HM office requirements.

KickboxingWanker · 18/04/2024 14:04

The current processing times say 3 weeks - however with first adult passports there is often a requirement for an interview which will take longer I’m afraid.
you could call the ppt office to see what they recommend.
Do either parents hold a British passport?
I’m pretty sure the stop issuing child ppt at 16 - they then apply for an adults.

InAMillion · 18/04/2024 14:05

It can be very quick 3 weeks

Sort it out asap online and tell them the holiday date

TwoBlueFish · 18/04/2024 14:05

Child passport is under 16 only

sunflowerlover282 · 18/04/2024 14:07

I recently applied for my child's first passport and it took around 8 days from start to finish. Do the application online x

SpringOfContentment · 18/04/2024 14:08

Get the form filled in and line up someone who can confirm his identity. Ideally get it in the post today - but realistically, its going to be tomorrow.
Cross your fingers.

theeyeofdoe · 18/04/2024 14:10

It says waiting time is around 3 weeks at the moment. Do it asap, then check it yourself and get someone else to do it too. Have the photos done in an approved place.
get the person countersigning it to have a job when they can reply to emails quickly ie - not a hospital doctor!

Yes you can - but as I mentioned above he may be called for an interview as it’s his first adult passport - they take longer than renewals or child’s first ppt.
I really would recommend calling them first to see what they say - there may be a way of expediting them.

Comedycook · 18/04/2024 14:19

You might be alright. I did a first passport for my dc last year and it was less than two weeks from me applying to it arriving through the door. It was extremely efficient

Comedycook · 18/04/2024 14:21

Although obviously that was for a child passport not an adult first pp.

Adult dd is going to ring and try talk to an actual person

hangingonfordearlife1 · 18/04/2024 14:30

wouldn't bother calling they are useless

Iliketulips · 18/04/2024 14:32

Admittedly it was for a renewal, but DD phoned and they were able to give her a more accurate date than what was online - might be worth doing that.

They should be able to give more information on timescales if an interview is needed.
There was a time when they were interviewing every first adult applicant in person or via zoom during Covid times.
Not sure if they are still doing that.
i do know if parents have ppt it makes applications more straightforward.

mitogoshi · 18/04/2024 14:42

Door online now, send documents next day delivery to arrive tomorrow and keep fingers crossed. It is an adult passport he needs.

Send all documents via Royal Mail Special Delivery. Make sure the envelope has the PEX number on the front of the envelope.

Passports have been coming back in as little as 5-7 days at the moment.

Doing it now. Hopefully be ok

It might be a bit slower for first passports, but the passport office is super quick at the moment. The biggest delay is from when your documents arrive there until they actually start processing. I sent mine registered mail so I knew they had arrived the following day. But I only got notified by them that they were received about 4 days later. However, my passport was here 3 days later so once they start processing, it's really quick. My brother had a very similar experience recently with his too.

Assuming there are no issues with the documents, I think one month from now will be totally fine.

It's still on the phone from what dd just said .
