Weekend away - book Friday or Monday off?

Trying to decide which of the two days either side of the weekend break to book off. As it stands Friday I would need to be in the office, Monday I would be WFH.

Weekend away is an hour drive from home. We can’t check in until 4pm. Friday is a quiet day where I work anyway and usually I WFH on that day… but, it happens that there is a meeting in person scheduled in on that Friday. I’ll need to attend if I’m working but can just catch up on the minutes if not.

We can check out at 10am on the Monday and then possibly stop off somewhere on the way home, or not. There will also be the washing to do!

I’m not sure which day I should choose to have off. I could book both but really trying to save back some annual leave as I’m pregnant and so will need to use it later this year.

Which would you prefer to have?

If you are still away on Monday surely you need to take the Monday? And arrive later than 4 on Friday or take a half day that day. You can’t be WFH in a car, having lunch and doing the washing…

I'd book 2 half days!

Poorly explained maybe. If I worked Monday, we’d leave early at 7am.

Yes! This would work.

You have already booked to stay the Sunday night, with a Monday checkout. And it's only 1 hour away.

So: work Friday, leave after work (pack Thurs night?) and get to accommodation in time for dinner and a nice evening.

Two full days holiday, Sat and Sun.

Leave Monday morning, either extend hol with a lunch out or come home and do washing!

In different scenarios (eg with a Sunday checkout) I'd pick to have the Friday off.

I’d be inclined to book the Friday off and travel down earlier and still enjoy milling about somewhere different even if you can’t check in until later. You can probably drop bags and go explore.

depends on where you go but some cafes and coffee shops other venues close on Mondays where’s most are open on Fridays so you might get to make the most of your time away then.
