DH won’t go to docs - does this sound like he should?

DH (40 and generally healthy) woke up last night with terrible pain in his upper abdomen and back. He was breathing through the pain but was refusing an ambulance saying it wasn’t necessary. It woke him up throughout the night on the couple of occasions that he went to sleep.

He took some painkillers and felt better and slept. This morning he’s much better, upper abdomen is a bit tender and he feels a bit nauseous but still ate breakfast.

I think a trip to the GP would be good but he thinks not. Should I try and pursue him or am I being a bit overly anxious?

Sounds like it could be gallstones?

Skiphopbump · 18/04/2024 09:37

It does sound like it could be gallstones. He should book an appointment so he can be referred for a scan.

I'd leave it for now, if it's improving, but definitely if it recurrs.

Yes i would monitor, as its sounds like he is improving ?

I'd see how I got on if I felt better.

I will say once i had trapped wind that felt like it was in my back and my manager was on the verge of calling an ambulance I was in that much pain and sweating/trembling etc. Trapped wind can be horrifically painful.

Fookintired · 18/04/2024 12:24

@Megifer I'm with you on that one. I've cried with trapped wind. After an operation where they pump you with air (in colon) they leave it to dissipate naturally over a number of weeks. It was horrendous, ended up with the worst shoulder pain as well. OP i would go see GP if it doesn't let up.
