I’m getting bitten by mosquitos! In the W Midlands!

I always react really badly to mosquitos bites so I’m pretty sure these are definitely bites as I’m reacting the same as on holiday.
Since moving into this current house, I’m getting bitten loads.

Is anyone else experiencing this? It’s usually on my legs/back, but I’m never not dressed! I bathe using insect repellent body wash (lovely) and I’m using incognito repellent spray every morning but I’m still getting more.

Our gutters are blocked and I’m wondering whether we have nesting mozzies - is that even feasible in the UK?!

I do get random hives on my face but they tend to go away after an hour, whereas these last days and days - just like bites do.

Help ☹️

Did the previous owners have pets? It could be fleas.

I thought about that, and they did and we’ve lived here 3 years and also have a dog.

our dog is treated regularly and I’ve been checking for signs but nothing. Also no one else has any bites

Have you been in long grass? My DH got bitten by what we thought was mozzies when he was in long grass in the Midlands. They were a really nasty insect and he had to have intravenous antibiotics. His legs swelled up in blisters. Sorry to be dramatic!

I've got two big mozzie bites, in London. I think maybe they came out last week as it was quite warm and sunny. I took allergy tablets and they went.

EscapeTheCastle · 17/04/2024 17:08

I got bitten badly 4 times on one leg last week.
I've sprayed flea spray in the bathroom where I think it happened.
I react badly to them as well.
Definitely get your gutters cleared and keep windows shut of an evening.

It’s a terrible year for them because of the wet weather. I am being bitten in Yorkshire, lived here 10 years and it’s never been a problem before. There aren’t any obvious big stretches of standing water but there are puddles that haven’t dried up for months so plenty of breeding grounds.

Singleandproud · 17/04/2024 17:10

I get mozzie bites all the time in the UK. Do you live near any standing water, neighbours might have built anew pond. Gutters could be the source as no natura predators like frogs could get up there.

Odd to get mossie bits under your clothes unless they are in your bathroom! Have you actually seen any resting on the walls etc?

Are the bites in a line or cluster? That would indicate bed bugs. They can survive for ages without biting and can live in cracks in the skirting / around wall sockets. Not everyone reacts to there bites so your partner might not have noticed anything.

Honestly with it not being summer the only time my legs are out is in the bathroom so it must be there!

Luckily they are all far apart so don’t think it’s bed bugs!

How long's it been going on OP?

I'm covered in bites right now from having the bifolds open on Friday night with a glass of wine - we had an absolute swarm of mozzies invade at dusk and didn't notice they were chomping me until covered in massive red bites the next day....

But that's the first time this year so if it's been going on for months then I'd be inclined to think you have more going on.

We sadly did have fleas once before, and those bites were smaller on me and also primarily legs and feet... GP should be able to advise what's bitten you if you're worried, possibly even from a pic if appointments are hard to find?

...these mozzies DID bite through my clothes on Friday, BTW!

I work as a dog walker and when I used to walk a dog near a canal I used to get bitten all the time by mozzies and I react really badly. I'm also West Midlands.

I always have the windows open overnight and don't wear pjs in bed (always roasting due to perimenopause!) and that is when the buggers tend to get me. Surprisingly I haven't been got this year, yet..... I've found and squished a few mozzies in the house even over winter so if you've got some in a nice warm house maybe they are getting you overnight too?

It’s been going on for about a week, but I remember it happening for about a week or two last year, and has done since we’ve moved here.

I read somewhere that mosquitos nest in April time. I’m wondering whether I’m being bit through clothes too!

I am tempted to get some of those bug bombs and let them off everywhere but I have a dog and a baby! We’ll have to book a weekend away and do it lol

My daughter and I have been getting bitten loads over the last month, don't know what's going on. I've been inspecting the beds in case it's bed bugs. I'm so paranoid about them. Bites aren't in clusters, though, and we have absolutely no signs. Thought fleas, but the animals are clear and have no signs of scratching. We seem to be getting a bite every day and sometimes under clothes. It's really annoying!

It’s horrendous. Just woke up and another bite 😩😩. I have pj bottoms on and this one is at the back of my thigh. What is going on!

I'm also in the West Midlands and I must have tasty blood I'm always getting bitten.

I use the insect repellent bracelets, I put them on my ankle as I usually get bitten on my legs.
