Looking at the Maxi cosi cabriofix, is this a good one?

We intend on extended rear facing so will be buying another seat for use from 9 months or so plus.

I am reluctant to join any of the Facebook groups as heard they can be a bit militant and sometimes end up confusing you more! Which did you choose and were you happy with it?

@FlyingSoap I would avoid the Facebook groups too.

I used a Silver Cross infant carrier and then bought a Maxi Cosi seat for my little one thinking they would be good as they were “good brands” but in reality, after doing some research and educating myself more when he outgrew the Maxi Cosi, I now know that neither are that great and aren’t tested that highly.

I often see the Avionaut Cosmo or Pixel Pro recommended as the best fit for newborns. And I know that BeSafe & Britax get a good reputation for safety too.

The Cabriofix is fine. Be aware that you'll see millions of recommendations going years back for the MC Cabriofix but Maxi Cosi have basically reused the name of one of their old bestselling seats onto a new model and it's not exactly the same seat. It's still well made, good safety, compatible with a lot of prams, lightweight and affordable so has many of the upsides of the old one, but it doesn't last as long as the old one used to.

Some others I'd look at in this kind of price range would be Britax Babysafe Core, and Cybex Aton B2. They have the same pram compatability as Maxi Cosi (even if not listed, they use the same adapters) and both have good safety/comfort/ease of use but last a bit longer than the Maxi Cosi. All three are good options I'd be happy to use. I think you can be easily oversold on the different features of infant car seats, and personally it's not worth the extra money that it costs for some of the pricier models. If you do want to pay more to get another feature, that's fair, just understand what you're paying for (if that makes sense!)
