Neighbour threatening to poison pets, should I report to police?

We have a neighbourhood Facebook group, I have just seen a man threatening to put poisoned chicken out, he started by saying it was to poison rats and mice and then said cat owners should be warned that he didn’t care if they were poisoned too.

I have a screenshot and his name and photograph, is this enough for the police to take action?

I'd report him to the police but also to the RSPCA, you have it in writing so he'll find it hard to deny it

Absolutely report.

I would feel tempted to report but I am pretty sure nothing would come out of it. He can always claim that the poison was for the rats, besides… police doesn’t have time to deal with threats to human life much less so with threats to animals.

You could also point him to the relevant govt advice:

Actually, it is a criminal offence to put out poison that can be eaten by other animals other than pests.

Yes absolutely report him.
Mice are EXTREMELY unlikely to eat chicken and rats possibly would but they also prefer grain and veg or something sweet.
It's obviously aimed at cats.

Yes, report to the police.

I have phoned 101, they have logged it and passed on to the Neighbourhood Policing Team. Thanks everyone.

Here's the relevant legislation and a summary. You can't just put poison in chicken out. You can, however use specific rat poison to target rats, if you take steps to ensure that you are targeting just rats/mice/pests. Here's a summary.

It may be, but how do you prove it was to poison the neighbours’ pets if he puts it in his own garden?

Obviously, if he leaves poisoned stuff in his neighbours’ doorstep, that’s a completely different matter.
