Would you leave your oven on whilst you went out?

Slow cooking something in the oven this afternoon but need to pop to supermarket before the school run?
Shall I leave it on low or turn it off?

I would leave in on.

Blixem · 16/04/2024 13:04

I leave mine on if I'm not out for too long.

dementedpixie · 16/04/2024 13:05

If it's an electric oven I'd leave it on. Not so sure if it was a gas oven

greyandbluewool · 16/04/2024 13:05

I leave mine on, but only when I know that the cooking time is at least double the time it would take me to go and come back.

FeralNun · 16/04/2024 13:06

Yes, and often have, but only if on low and slow cooking something. When I had bottled gas though, it seemed to be a signal for the gas to run out!

We always go to the pub at lunchtime on Christmas Day. Food goes into the oven and is ready by the time we get back.

Icloud54 · 16/04/2024 13:07

It's electric.
I'll probably be out 2 hours all in which it pings off in that time anyway

I criminalisation mine on, I even set the timer with a roast in there so it's already cooking when I've been out all day

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 16/04/2024 13:07

I do.

TheBirdintheCave · 16/04/2024 13:08

I would turn it off as I wouldn't feel safe leaving it.

mitogoshi · 16/04/2024 13:08

Er yes of course. I set the timer too sometimes.

Icloud54 · 16/04/2024 13:11

Thanks, I'll leave it on then.

I would turn off but that is because we had a house fire. I would have before but now I am EVERYTHING OFF.

NoraLuka · 16/04/2024 13:15

I never do this, what if your car breaks down and you take ages to get home? I live rurally and have an oven without a timer though, might be different if I knew I could pop back in a taxi or something.

AllTheWatersTurnedToClouds · 16/04/2024 13:15

I will today when I go to the hairdresser- but only with a cook time set so it will turn off even if I’m not there
