Which is more inappropriate for teens - the inbetweeners or peep show?

I haven’t seen much peep show and I am struggling to remember. The characters are older though so I am thinking more inappropriate maybe?

Peep show is more adult.

DevilgateDriver · 16/04/2024 10:28

100% peep show! The inbetweeners is pretty accurate to typical teenage life (it certainly was in the past anyway!)

If they are old enough to watch the inbetweeners then they should be able to watch peep show and enjoy it as a comedy. It doesn't make drugs etc look aspirational but they are mentioned a lot.

Foxblue · 16/04/2024 10:32

Peep Show, purely on the basis that Mark gets sexually assaulted in it, and I feel like SuperHans coerces a young man into performing oral sex on him too. Now, both of these things are portrayed as wrong, and there's actually a conversation between Mark and Jez about it being wrong, so it would be down to the age of the teen really.

Oh yes that does sound a lot more adult. Probably best to avoid it I think. I think inbetweeners must be tame in comparison .

Spaced is also worth a watch. It's a couple who aren't actually a couple renting a flat with some interesting neighbours.

Yumyi · 16/04/2024 10:41

Oh yes I remember spaced it was good

I rewaatched some old Peep Show the other day and there was an awful comment about rape in it and some other very close to the mark stuff you really wouldn't get away with these days! It's not suitable for teens IMO, unless maybe 17ish +

senua · 16/04/2024 10:44

Simon does like to get his kit out. Any excuse.
Jay talks about sex a lot, in a derogatory way. Ofc he never actually gets any.

But the disco scene in the first film makes me LOL every time.Grin Grin

Agree with pp that Peep Show is most inappropriate - the darkness running through it makes it much more adult.

There are a lot of sex/wanking references in Inbetweeners but it’s all so juvenile that it gets away with it. Saying that, I did wait til my teens were 14 and 15 to watch it, and even then we fast forwarded a few bits cause who wants to watch Will attempting to have sex with your mum sitting next to you!

SnapdragonToadflax · 16/04/2024 11:32

Inbetweeners would be fine I think, though I probably wouldn't want to watch it with my child 😬But they're not saying anything kids aren't already hearing at school.

Peep Show I would wait until a bit later, it's more nuanced and I'm not sure younger teens would have the life experience or knowledge to understand why people do things. It's also really quite depressing in places. I love it, but it's probably better watched when you have a bit of life experience behind you.

Edited to say it came out the year I left uni, which was probably just about perfect. But 16/17 earliest I would say, and they won't get it in the same way as someone older.

Let's not forget Kenneth the dildo. 😂

Once mine were at the local Comp I thought they'd probably hear things at school anyway, so they could watch Inbetweeners. It was useful to ask if it was like that at school too. They said "People don't call out like that" about people saying "Briefcase wanker" to Will.
They are older teens now, one at uni and dd2 and I were watching the Will pooing in the exam and pub afterwards episode and laughing.
I refer to myself as a Bus Wanker as I use buses a lot.

Pedallleur · 16/04/2024 11:52

my 14 yr old is currently watching InBetweeners. Says it's like school!! Derry Girls is her favourite tho'. Peep Show she would need to be older imo

Mrsjayy · 16/04/2024 11:55

Peep show is for adults as in its adults stories and the humour wouldn't hit properly. Inbetweeners is ridiculous and a rude and funnier than peep show by a mile.

RuggedOutcrop · 16/04/2024 11:56

If I remember correctly Inbetweeners has Neil rifle through Will's Mum's laundry basket for dirty knickers to sniff whilst wanking so not really something you would want to watch with your child. But it still makes me laugh to this day. Plus we did say bus wankers in this house when Ds was learning to drive.

pinksunglasses · 16/04/2024 11:59

Peep Show is bloody brilliant but very adult! It’s my favourite ever sitcom but it’s so dark.

Coldupnorth87 · 16/04/2024 12:17

We've just watched all of Peep Show again after not seeing it for years. We were surprised how grim it was in parts, lots of drugs, dodgy sex & grifting.

Very funny but yeah, Inbetweeners is less dark...

bombastix · 16/04/2024 12:21

Peep show is literally the definition of advanced adult cringe. It is not for teens

ginasevern · 16/04/2024 13:24

Peep Show for teens? No.

The Inbetweeners is great but I wouldn’t advise watching alongside your daughter!

scenes to avoid:

  • S1E4 Will tries to have sex with Charlotte
  • S2E2 A young girl gives Simon a handjob in an open area
  • S2E5 An old woman proudly exclaims ‘he did that looking at me’ as Jay masturbates to an old photo of her
ineedtostopbeingdramaticfirst · 21/04/2024 06:26

I've not really watched peep show but I use to love inbetweeners.

However when I look back I would say it's not aged that well lots of sexual talk about girls and how to have sex with them. Mocking of gay people.

I wouldn't want my teens thinking it's an appropriate way to treat people.

Ttrees · 21/04/2024 06:53

My young teen talks quite openly about sex/bodies/relationships but said its a bit weird to watch sex stuff with me so we avoid - it came up in reference to quite mild scenes (Buffy I think).

I love the Peep Show but definitely not for young teens. Older teens I have no idea…. I assumed at some age they can watch anything and will work out for themselves whether it’s views are dated or not too their taste etc.
