Ie very thin bits of wood that go deep into glass squares.

Very tricky to sand.

Not sure I've understood the description, but paint stripper and then bamboo skewers to scrape?

I don't really understand what you are trying to say. Are you asking how to strip the glazing bars of paint or asking how to get paint off the glass panels?

If the latter then use a copper cloth, if the former I doubt you can strip it back to bare wood. Why do you want to? If you want to repaint the glazing bars then run a piece of sand paper over them to create a key and then paint over with another paint.

Hello.

Both.

From the last awful paint job we got paint on the glass, but I want to also remove the gloss on the wood and re paint the whole thing

It's really hard to sand and the wood has detail in it

@RazzleDazzleEm Use a poultice on the wood, then a glass scraper to remove from the glass. Contact strippers paint removers https://www.stripperspaintremovers.com/

An alternative but it will depend on how strong the wood is on the door, is ask a joiner to remove the glass panels, send the door to be stripped then either replace the original glass or get it reglazed with new glass.

@schloss thanks.

It's an old door I don't want to spend too much on it but hate the way it looks. It's also got the stickiest substance known to man in it when I put what I thought was paint barrier to stop paint getting on the glass.

@RazzleDazzleEm Give strippers paint removers a call. I used them in the past and sent a small amount of paint I was trying to get off an item. They analysed it and told me what best to use. I am not sure if they offer this service anymore, but worth making a call to them.

They sent me one of their products and I was astonished how quickly I was able to removed what I thought was unremovable!

The only other option is speak to people who will dip the door, the glass will need removing though, and sometimes the dipping process can weakend any joints.

Speak to joiners who specialise in windows, they may be able to offer some advice as to how to clean the glass. If you could get the glass clean, could you sand enough of the wood to a smooth finish to prime and then repaint it? You could try a dremel with a sanding tool on as that will be small enough.
