Morning everyone - I'm as creative as a brick so I need your help!!!

I'm hosting a Team Day next month for a group of 12 people, comprising of different sessions by different people. My session is on our team values - these are values that we worked through and came up with a couple of years ago and I want to make sure that they are still relevant and accurate. Think integrity, trust, caring etc. rather than me standing in front of death by PowerPoint and talking and pointing at them, does anyone have any creative/practical ideas of how I could run this???

Could you get individuals (or pairs/groups) to come up with examples of your values in action and not in action in your workplace and present these to the group - if you think your team would go for it, they could even do this as a role-play.

You could set up a collage station with magazines and poster boards, letting everyone create their own visual representation of what your team values mean to them. It's a nice way to see how each of you interpret those values x

NorthernGirlie · 16/04/2024 08:08

Depending on budget could you buy some tiles and paint and get each person to paint their vision of one of the values?

You could then display them somewhere communal.

Getabloominmoveon · 16/04/2024 08:13

Break them into smaller groups, give them a value each and ask them to make a film on one of their phones, demonstrating that value in action at work. Also could ask them to do the opposite- play out that Value ‘under pressure’ so that you can discuss why and when that happens, and how to fix it.

Should be simple enough to send to a laptop for sharing on screen.

Oh please no role plays or filming stuff, most people hate that. Do the collage thing.

PiggieWig · 16/04/2024 08:16

Get them to make a playlist of songs that reflect the values and design an album covet

Excitedannie · 16/04/2024 08:22

OMG how the hell have you guys come up with these amazing ideas so quickly and so early in the morning!!!!! Honestly - these are all great and really making me think!

This, a million times this. Role plays/acting stuff out on film is just the most awful activity you can do to people

The whole lot is awful. No one will want to do this shit. They go to work to get paid, they don't really, honestly give a shit about this bollocks. Give them an afternoon off at the pub or day out or something instead.

Right! Grown adults making collages about feelings. Kill me.

Excitedannie · 16/04/2024 09:02

@JosiePosey that's what I'm doing in the afternoon - pub lunch and chill out but we have to do some bits in the morning!!!

I don't want to do role play really, but then I also don't want to stand up and say "look at these values - are they still relevant" and have 13 blank faces stare at me. We're a close team so I want it to be interactive. I'm now thinking of TikTok videos of each value showing a bad example (there are a few funny ones) that we can then watch - that's as far as I've got 😂

We split into 2 teams. There was a small construction made of lego or coloured bricks. One team had to describe to the other team (who couldn't see the original) how to build the identical construction with heir bricks. Worked well, cynical IT staff got on with it, no feelings, lots of team work.

I like this. The process would (or should) demonstrate most of our values and would highlight which ones we need to work on (such as no blame culture I suspect 😂😂😂)

Is your brief to see if the team thinks your values are still the right ones, or to identify values that are weaker than others?

If it just the former then no amount of collage, role play etc is going to answer that. Just ask them to add five more values - break into two teams to come up with the five, then put the lot on a whiteboard. Then tell everyone to pick the six most important - maybe break into two different teams to discuss. That should tell you something about how relevant they are, and whether new ones need to be added.
