My Nan has a bit of a pet hoarding problem. At the moment she only has 4 cats and 2 dogs but she’s had a lot more than that in the past.
Her house absolutely stinks of wee and dirt. She doesn’t have a proper garden. Just a shared one and she has to physically go out with the animals.
She has limited mobility so moving around is a struggle. My uncle lives with her. He’s a recovering druggie and has been on methadone going on 30 years now. He looks like a typical scab head. He does fuck all really apart from maybe walking the dogs, and getting in the shopping. He doesn’t help around the house.
He lives off his benefits with Nan paying in where she can, and she lives off her pension. She pays a fortune at the moment to the vets with one of her cats who’s on the older side.
She rang me the other day saying that “uncle wanted a puppy” I told her she would be an idiot to bring a puppy into the house because he won’t do all the caring and she would be left to it, which she agreed. I told her to not buy anything and she said she couldn’t afford to anyway.
Well….shes gone and got a fucking puppy. She can’t afford it. She’s outright said to me she can’t afford it but she still has one.
She’s an old woman who hasn’t got that many years left in her and her bungalow is a council property. I don’t think uncle will get put on the deeds when she passes which means when she does, he will have to either rehome all the animals, or find a place to take them all.
I’m just so frustrated because I know this poor little dog is doing to suffer. She chain smokes. Uncle chain smokes. The house like I said absolutely reeks. I can’t be round there. It literally hits you in the face when you walk in.
I’ve told her she’s an idiot and she’s laughed it off but she will be ringing me at some point this month complaining about how she has no money, the cat needed the vet or something else along the line.
