Bursitis I think I may have this, anyone got any advice?

For around 2 weeks Ive had a pain in my left hip or around that area, strangely Ive also got a pain in my calf. The calf feels like Ive pulled a muscle. I dont think it's siatica as it's not a dull ache or shooting pain. When I sit I can feel it.

Wondering if it is bursitis. Should I go to the GP or will it go on its own? Any advice please!

Ibuprofen and exercises to strengthen the glutes helped mine. Unless you have serious reason to suppose anything more sinister, I doubt a GP would give you any different treatment. Physio on the NHS is strictly for post op and injury these days.

Bursitis is fluid around the area and could possibly be infected ... not muscular but joints...so Im.thinking a call to the Drs

When I had bursitis on my hip it was a burning pain, felt like it should be really hot. It was worst when I was lying down, and first thing in the morning.

I was given physio and exercises to clear it, and it went away surprisingly quickly-having had it for a good few months before I went to the GP.

Thanks for advice, Ive got a stinking cold so feel hot and yucky which isnt helping. I'll check hip etc out once Ive got rid of this cold and decide what to do

I get bursitis in my hip too and exercise to strengthen my glutes works wonders (squats, glute bridges, crab walks with bands, clams with bands etc). Also using a tennis ball to massage the area helps (recommended by my physio). And ibuprofen when bad.

So I now seem to have tingling in my foot and feels weird when walking...not pins and needles just like a tingling feeling.

I started a range of exercises as suggested as the pain is awful first thing and definitely helped combined with regular ibuprofen.

Just abit worried about the tingling...although have had a quick google and it can happen

Me and my sister both have this. Whilst I was on the waiting list for physio I started swimming and by the time I got an appointment I didn't need it. Honestly, the best advice I can give you is swim. I've been really slack recently and it's flared up again. I pay for it when I don't exercise.

Steroid. injections solve this. But get it done under a guided scan. Makes all the difference

Get a knee pillow to sleep with. Helps postion your hip correctly

Comfysock · 16/04/2024 22:18

Im going to try a pillow tonight

Is there any swelling? My hip was visibly swollen when I had bursitis.

I think if there was infection, you'd feel unwell.

I'm afraid I don't bother with GP for musculoskeletal things, I find them no better than useless. My osteopath diagnosed the bursitis and prescribed stretches, anti-inflammatories and ice. The ice helped a lot, but I was worried about taking the tablets too often so tried high strength turmeric capsules. It may have been conicidence but it cleared up really quickly once I was taking those.

Comfysock · 16/04/2024 22:29

Yes I think it's swollen compared to the other side. I do have a stinking cold and felt rough but I put that down to a cold.

I'll do more stretching tomorrow dose up on meds see what happens

I'd definitely recommend a pillow between your knees in bed, makes a big difference

Comfysock · 17/04/2024 09:01

Slept well last with pillow. Just finished 20 mins of stretches and exercises. See what the day brings!

Following as also suffer with hip bursitis which also causes pain in my lower back....

Comfysock · 19/04/2024 19:46

Exercises Im sure have helped me, Im in pain first thing so I do a set of exercises also immediately. Pain has been less and less as the weeks gone on.

Ive not had any ibuprofen either for 2 days as not needed it.

What sort of exercises are you doing @Comfysock

Here is one that was suggested by my physiotherapist.
My pain started with a heat, tingle on my left hip but it wasn't until free I was unfortunately lifting something heavy...😣 I had muscle spasms on my lower back...

I think my core has little strength and I really need to work on it.

Comfysock · 20/04/2024 19:42

This looks good will try it.
Ive been doing as others have suggested ...glute strengthening, I found some on YouTube

I've had hip bursitis for some time following knee surgery which meant I wasn't walking well and threw everything out of whack.
Voltarol gel on the affected buttock, massage and glute bridges are helping.

ObliviousCoalmine · 30/09/2024 20:44

Resurrecting this to see how everyone is getting on.

I think I have this. Mainly in my right hip and down the outside of my leg into my knee and calf and partially in my left hip (I think this might be something different as the pain is hip flexor based). The right leg pain is sort of a dull ache, almost like it's numb, but not. Occasionally a weird heaviness in a spot in my calf.

I do spinning 2/3 times a week, swim once a week and yoga 1/2 times a week. I think the yoga is making it worse, but it doesn't hurt during spinning or swimming.

I don't really know how to manage it. Painkillers help a bit but I'm not keen on that long term. I'm a side sleeper - that really hurts. A cushion between the knees helps but I lose it in the night.

Have any of you had any successes so far?

gamerchick · 30/09/2024 20:49

Tom Morrison. Look for him on Facebook. Dudes a genius.

No matter how fit and strong you are, his exercises make you humble. They find all of your unstable areas and where your body is compensating when you move, which throws up all of these niggles and inflammation.
