Ring-type doorbell on advice police: any recommendations?

Recommendations for a type of doorbell camera (camera doorbell?) I mean, not “ACAB, don’t trust them”/“booby-trap your letterbox overnight”/“don’t live in inner London, it is made of crime” etc.

After the less than delightful experience of someone trying (rather feebly, thankfully) to break in then fishing through my letterbox for [(Keyless) car] keys in the wee hours earlier this week^; it’s been suggested by the police I invest in a doorbell with a camera.

The only type I know of is a ring doorbell; obviously I didn’t ask the police officer who came to take my statement about what had happened if she had any specific recommendations when she suggested it; so I am hoping my favourite Vipers’ Nest will have helpful suggestions/information/[anti]recommendations for me.

In case it makes a difference, I live in a terraced house - specifically an end-terrace, with a wee front garden, much/most of which is taken up by a wheelchair ramp^^/stairs to platform in front of the door.

To be clear, I’m going to look at reviews & research & read all the things - but I literally cannot afford to make a mistake purchasing something like this. Moreover on here people are likely to be honest & may say stuff they maybe wouldn’t think to in a review purely as they’re responding to someone else rather than writing a standalone piece.

I did try searching because I’m certain this will have been asked umpteen times before, but MN’s search function insisted this was not the case. MN’s search function sometimes tells fibs that make Hilaire Belloc’s Matilda look a rank amateur in the dishonesty game; so I apologise if is the seventy zillionth thread on this you have seen. I do not work for Big Doorbell (nor indeed Doorbell Of Any Size); I’ve never posted about this before; & if you would be so kind as to share a link to the thread that was only 5 minutes ago I would be very grateful^.

^ the brand new car belonging to the neighbours 2 doors up could not have been safer from the buckeejits
^^ it has been suggested by several people they may have gone for that particular car not only because it was new but because they’re stupid enough to believe disabled people get free cars, so stealing the shiny new car from the house with the wheelchair ramp in front of it = a victimless crime 🤦‍♀️
^ I may be overthinking this, yes 😶

I have an indoor camera that I put on the windowsill by tapo, I think it was £20 from amazon, it's pretty good tbh, it's swivels about and follows movement and has a pretty good camera. It's £3 a month for cloud storage or you can buy a memory card to put in it and. Pay no subscription. Or are you specifically looking for a doorbell (have a ring doorbell too).

I also think a fuck off bright safety light out the front could be very useful

Thank you, sorry, real life rudely interrupted 🤦‍♀️

@Pixiesgirl the police specifically advised a doorbell 🫤 I’m not sure, but I think the not-quite-bay windows of the sitting room mean a blind spot when the house is approached from the top of the road 🤔

@FusionChefGeoff I can talk to my joined-on neighbours - our front doors are right beside each other, so it would impact them 🤔 useful for finding keys in the winter - would just need one set to “bright but not blinding” & “range = inside the garden” as otherwise we’d be irritating everyone endlessly. And possibly bankrupted by a security light, which would have novelty value, I suppose, but still doesn’t appeal.
