I’m not especially a big fan of Little Women but I couldn’t resist buying this annotated copy for £2.50. It’s huge but I’m pleased to have it.

What bargains have you found lately?

Ooh nice! Not really bargains but I've recently gone in and found exactly the random things I need in a charity shop - e.g. spice rack and/or black hat etc.

Nothing that will particularly set the world on fire but I bought a gorgeous M&S tee with tags still on for £1.50 in British Heart Foundation. The colour is a gorgeous pale green, I'd call it 'seafoam green'. Very soft fabric.

No putting of late. I fear Vinted has robbed us of the opportunity for little gem's given to charity unless you travel to a wealthy area

I am very lucky that someone in my town seems to buy copious amounts of Seasalt, Fat Face etc in my size then donate it while barely worn. My charity shops still have reasonable pricing so I've been able to get trousers for £4 and tops/tunics with pockets for £6-7. I hope this woman does not move house or change size or style as I'd be gutted.

Just today, a playstation onesie for my teen, barely worn for £4.50 and a pair of sketchers, unworn, for my husband, £6.00. Bargain!!

A solid silver milk jug for £2.50. It needs a good polish as it's currently black.

I was wasting some time before meeting a friend.

Mini pool table with 2 sets of balls, 4 cues, triangle & chalk- £5! Retails for £90 in Argos!

Pair of lined curtains for £2 - retail for £65 in Dunelm

Yesterday I got a handbag for £3 and an M&S coat for £6. I wanted both items for an upcoming holiday. I love it when you go looking for something in particular and the charity shop provides.

Two sets of teacup, saucer and plate by Shelley in pink swirl pattern, regent shape for a fiver all in. Highly collectible. Will be selling on at a profit. Was not a a chazza purchase but at a flea market, so I don't feel a bit bad about it!

If it's solid silver won't it be worth a lot more than £2?

I got a real leather bag, perfect size and in my favourite colour for £12. It looks completely unused. I love it, I think it's my best ever bag!

I’m finding it much harder to find anything decent in clothing anymore - as a pp said, I think Vinted is getting all the good stuff. Around here almost all the charity shops have increased their prices a lot too, mostly unjustified for the basics like plain tops and jeans etc for High St brands. I did, however, get an M&S Goodmoves pale grey raincoat on the bargain rail for £1. No idea why as it’s in new condition and doesn’t look like an older style.

Got my cat a new bed for £2, which is still in Pets at Home for £19. A wetsuit for DS for £1, perfect for our Cornwall holiday in the summer. Always getting current fiction books for 25p to £1. A large thick fleece blanket for £3 - as in a proper blanket weight.

I prefer Vinted as I can filter for what I want, from home. No looking though colour coded, mixed size rails, only to find it's the same stuff as a few weeks ago. I only donate now when I can't find an item a new home directly.

A little vintage(?) silver movable clown pendant for £2.50. They are listed on ebay for around £30.

No intention to sell it though.

SmokeWithoutFire · 14/04/2024 19:30

Not in a charity shop but a jumble sale for a local charity - a like new laptop bag for 50p!

Just what I needed for DS to take his laptop from house to house in. I was well chuffed.

DeanElderberry · 14/04/2024 19:33

Mostly mystery novels, but I got a box set of the first season of the original Jack Lord Hawaii 5-O that was great fun to watch (trouble is I want all the rest now) and green glass vase coloured with uranium that glows in a wonderfully eerie way under ultraviolet light.

Last really exciting buy I had was dd2 was doing a musical theatre exam and needed a carpet bag to be Mary Poppins.

In each of the charity shops I looked at, they had something that would do, but wasn't perfect. In one, it had bright pink flamingos, which looked wrong, the next had a really tight catch and she needed to open it during the song. Another had a huge one and another had one with a big brand name across it.
Then the last one had one so perfect that when I asked them to lift it down they called it "Mary Poppin's bag" without knowing what I was getting it for. I did tell them.
And it only cost £4.

I also took both dd1 and dd2 round them when they were going to uni to get a formal dress. Dd1 got two lovely purple full length dresses at £10 each, and dd2 got one lovely blue bridesmaid dress and one black cocktail dress for slightly more. All good brands and they looked stunning in them.

It's Sterling silver. I don't know what'a it's worth but I fancy using it.
