Hair Loss

Hiya I'm 45 and have very thin hair.

When I was younger I had very thick hair but since I hit 40 it has started to thin significantly.

I have blond hair so at times in places such as public toilet and changing mirrors with harsh lighting you can see my scalp. It's gets very greasy quickly and although I try not to where I can I need to wash it daily so it looks presentable.

My grandmother and my dad both lost a lot of hair as they got older and I don't know if it's hereditary or it's my age or a vitamin deficiency?

It's starting to bother me a lot and really affects my self esteem. Should I go to the doctor's would they be able to help? What can I do? Anyone been through similar?

Hi, no suggestions but here to empathise and hope that someone wiser comes along too.

My hair has got so much thinner and yesterday I found a photo from 10 years ago and my hair looked so much nicer. I’ve started using a thickening shampoo but no idea if it actually works or not.

Have you checked your iron/ ferritin levels. Easily done through a blood test. Mine was very low and gp gave me meds which I feel helped a bit. This could be a possible cause for thinning hair.

That's what I was wondering if it was a deficiency of some kind. My friend suggested it might be my thyroid but I had that checked and it was normal. I might book in for a blood test.

Hiya just an update to the thread. Spoke to the Dr yesterday and she was lovely . Going to test for thyroid, iron, hormone levels etc. and see if that's the issue.

She said that often we as women put up with things such as hair loss and we shouldn't as there could be an underlying cause.
