Children's book from the ~90s..??

I'm trying to remember a book, that I must've read in the 90s, but it could obviously have been published long before that.

It had a bit of an Enid Blyton feel to it, I think, but may not have been one of hers. Very old fashioned/wholesome type book.

I remember it was about a kennels, (or an animal rescue shelter perhaps), and had children in it (not James Herriot). I think there is a grey dog that the kids get really attached to?! A terrier?!

That's all I've got... but I remember loving it, and I think my daughter would love it now, but I cannot find it through searching (because obviously I've not got a lot to go on!).

If anyone has any clue, I'd be so grateful 🙏

Yes, I was going to say Animal Ark too.

Colin Dann, Just Nuffin’ ?

I think it was probably written long before the 90s, on reflection. I just read it in the 90s, so that's not really useful information...! Not animal ark, nor the other ones...

It was very... shorts and long socks, lashings of ginger beer, exciting to see a motor car type feel, though not necessarily those precise things. Just the general feel of the book was quite Blyton.

I don't remember there being big adventure - just sort of mundane everyday looking after animals type stuff. Maybe mild peril (!).

I realise I'm making it sound very dull, but it was a very lovely book! Just gentle and innocent.

The Puppy Place by Ellen Miles?

Puppy Patrol by Jenny Dale?

Enid Blyton
The family at Red Roofs
Or
The Children at Happy House

Both have elements of what you are thinking

I think the puppy place and puppy patrol look too recent, and I'm pretty sure my book was a stand alone book rather than a series. I think my daughter might enjoy all these suggestions anyway though, so this is giving us lots of other things to read! Thanks!

The family at red roofs looks familiar, but I don't think it was that one.... however, when I Googled it, it also threw up "the boy who wanted a dog", which seems to ring bells, so I may try to track it down and see if it's the one.

I wish I could remember more! It's like I start having a memory of the story but then it fades as soon as I try to focus on it.

Thanks for trying, everyone!
