Where Have My Cellar Spiders Gone??

We've had dozens - probably hundreds of them - all over the lower floors of the house for years. Not so many upstairs. They've thrived and kept our house clear of Evil Spiders, we're all happy.

They literally all just vanished in about a week, and already, three of us have started spotting Proper Spiders again. I absolutely bloody hate spiders, but love my cellar spiders.

Why have they just vanished? They've never done a seasonal disappearance before. All we've got is some cobwebs but no lovely cellar spiders!

OMG you are right, ours have gone too! This is not good!

They're all in our downstairs loo. It's very crowded in there, if you're a cellar spider!

Weird, they're also absent from our house, and they're normally in every room, leaving spindly lines of web across the ceilings.

And we've been finding big fat spiders running across the floors and needing to be scooped up and moved outside.

They went up your nose.

It's spring, they're outside now.

Celler spiders are the creepy vibrating house spider eating ones. Then there are the cute hairy house spiders looking for lurve. Surely!

They’re on holiday at my house, you should be getting a postcard from them soon.

Ours have gone too! I have no idea why but have noticed they are missing.

Errr, what are cellar spiders?!

The spindly ones you get. Not the hairy, kerlumphing, ones.

Omg. We normally have an absolute load of cellar spiders (old house) but very little in the way of other spiders or insects.

I've already way more big horrible hairy spiders than normal this year. And it's just occurred to me after seeing your post that we have a fraction of the usual number of cellar spiders. Come back 😭

Mine have gone in the downstairs loo, I was always very careful hoovering around them. There seems to be a lot more web and no cellar spider down there… strange indeed. Maybe they’ve been called to the Mothership?

5 of them came out of my Vax carpet cleaner when I got it out of the shed yesterday....they have been deposited in a bush in the garden.

They're here, all of them, in the shower room, the bedroom, the stairs and the landing INSIDE the smoke alarm yesterday with predictable and noisy consequences, I wish they'd relocate themselves.

I've had 2 more arrive overnight in the loo. 🤷‍♀️

I've spotted a new CS this morning, but not before my DS found ANOTHER Big Proper Spider in the living room. I think I've said "See! They DO keep us all safe!" about 58 times in the last 24 hours.

What's going on with them?! I'm almost reassured that's not just us...I'd been trying to think if I'd used a new cleaning spray or something and frightened them all off😂

I've banned DH from vacuuming in corners until we've got the situation under control. Where is everyone, geographically? I can't imagine it's a factor, but I've never seen this before! We're in South Yorkshire.

As a pp said, the very delicate, spindly ones. They take out the big spiders and keep your house beautifully spider-free! Even I didn't realise what a bloody good job they do😭

NW coast. It's a new build too I'd half-joked about bringing our huge CS stock from our old Victorian house til I spotted we had some here already!
