Do you know anyone who doesn’t love music?

I absolutely love music, I love songs with meaning and how it can change your mood. I have favourite artists/bands that if I met I’d cry, I go to gigs and think live music is incredible. And the fact that’s there’s so many genres.

My sister on the other hand could not care less. She has no favourite artist or band, wouldn’t care to see anyone live, would never have a favourite song or album. Nothing nostalgic of her teen yeas.

Anyone else just not that fussed?

I’m like that. I have a music degree and perform regularly. I love playing, but almost never listen to it. I like many things, but don’t love much (love playing though).

bumburlinga · 12/04/2024 19:48

My DH often accuses me of not loving music. I don’t hate it, but I would just never ever think to listen to music. I always have Radio 4 on in car and in kitchen and don’t listen to music at work. I have been to lots of gigs accompanying DH though and really enjoyed live music, but I still don’t ever really listen to it.

Tlolljs · 12/04/2024 19:49

Yeah I’m the same as your sister tbh. Don’t have the radio on. I like some songs that I hear at work. But I’m not bothered I’d rather have silence.

Newsenmum · 12/04/2024 19:49

Me!

I haven’t listened to music in a while 😳
I used to love it but, I don’t know. I feel like it gives me too many feels. so I just don’t. Is that weird?

NuffSaidSam · 12/04/2024 19:51

I like it, but I don't love it. I usually listen to podcasts instead of music, wouldn't go to see live music. I do like a musical though and will see those live.

ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 12/04/2024 19:51

Yes. I have a friend who cannot name a single song, either that she likes or doesn’t like. Her cultural references do not include any music at all, nothing from her childhood, teenage years, nothing current, no modern or traditional music, nothing at all.

Greywitch2 · 12/04/2024 19:51

Me. There are songs I like, but in general I find modern life very loud. I would never put the radio on or choose to add noise to my life. I went to gigs when younger, but in general I find most music an irritation that gets into my head and interrupts my thoughts.

Ponderingwindow · 12/04/2024 19:52

I like music, but don’t love it the way some people do. I have a tendency to sing show tunes. I rarely just play music to play music. I enjoy it more when it is incorporated into storytelling.

Blarn · 12/04/2024 19:52

My mum. She listens to songs, buys an album every now and then, but I have never known her to really enjoy a band or get into an album or find similar music. Not sure if she did when she was younger. We are total opposites in that respect.

FawnFrenchieMum · 12/04/2024 19:54

This is me. I couldn’t name a favourite song or artist. I don’t mind having the radio on in the background but would never bother creating a play list or buy music etc.
DH will be like, oh what a song, guess the year or artist or something and I’m like no idea. Not even going to guess.

anotherusernameforthis · 12/04/2024 19:57

Me!

Totally indifferent to it. Can barely name songs/artists.

I do ‘like’ hearing some music/songs, but wouldn’t ever play music to listen to. Nice if I hear them but unbothered if I never heard them again. Radio 4 on constantly in my house.

Don’t dislike music in any way, but just not bothered by it at all. Married to a music mad DH; he doesn’t get it! He does make a lovely playlist though which I enjoy but it wouldn’t occur to me to actively go and find music to listen to.

EventuallyDecluttered · 12/04/2024 19:58

I'm not that bothered, I nearly always listen to audio books, talk radio etc instead. I don't dislike it and do enjoy it occasionally but I'm not passionate about it and rarely put any on.

Ponderingwindow · 12/04/2024 19:58

I also particularly hate how society expects us to consume live music. We must be crowded, pressed together, standing and uncomfortable if the music is modern. For some performances we might be seated, but the chairs must still be too small for anyone with actual legs or shoulders, too pushed together, and the audience, entirely too claustrophobic.

I just want to be physically comfortable.

IvorTheEngineDriver · 12/04/2024 20:00

Yes, me. Totally indifferent to it. When my mates were going to concerts back in the day, I left them to it.

Soubriquet · 12/04/2024 20:01

I never used to when I was younger. I hated all the music forced on me. All my family liked pop, rap and all that stuff.

Then I discovered rock, metal and stuff like that and found music I did like. My family hated it which made me like it more Grin

Milkydumplings · 12/04/2024 20:04

Completely alien to me not to have music in my life.

Churchview · 12/04/2024 20:04

I like music, but don't love it. I enjoy a gig or concert but never have music on in the house or car. I prefer peace and quiet.

Northernsouloldies · 12/04/2024 20:06

Rockers ...all that dirty clobber n greasy hair...it's not the bikes it's the people..

It's a quote from Quadrophenia.

PinotDragon · 12/04/2024 20:19

I love music! I cannot stand doing housework with out something playing. My tastes are varied, If I'm cleaning or working I need some rock/metal/rap if I'm relaxing I like video game ambient. Have also recently discovered lofi for relaxing. But I also like the sound of nature, have lots of bird song so will open a window to hear nature's music too

Acinonyx2 · 12/04/2024 20:24

I love music - both to play and listen to. My dd though - pretty indifferent 😥which I find sad.

ArcticBells · 12/04/2024 20:25

I rarely play music and every radio is tuned to Radio 4

Catsmere · 13/04/2024 03:34

I used to enjoy listening to music, from medieval to 1970s, but have almost completely lost interest in the last ten years or so. I stopped listening to the radio in the 80s. I've listened to maybe two or three CDs this year.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 13/04/2024 04:13

Don't mind background music if I'm in the pub or something, but I have no interest in it generally, don't seek it out, and I'd rather have quiet than have a radio on just for the sake of it.
