Non Porridge Balanced Breakfast Ideas

GeneHuntsCowboyBoots · 12/04/2024 17:25

Hi,

Please can you give me some ideas of well balanced breakfasts that are relatively quick and easy and that aren’t porridge/overnight oats based. I don’t mind oats in muesli type things (or flapjacks😂) but porridge itself makes me 🤢. Thank you.

A small omelette? Scrambled eggs?

Feebs450 · 12/04/2024 18:03

Well my suggestion is porridge based but hopefully acceptable 😂

You can make 3 ingredient muffins - porridge oats (blended to flour), baking powder, mashed banana, water.

I've done them a few times for the dc who thoroughly enjoy the novelty of grabbing a 'cake' for breakfast!

Any kind of egg,
mushrooms on granary toast,
a banana,
rice pudding ?

Why the love for sourdough? To me it's just a bit of bread filled with holes!

I make my own brown bread that is soft and springy. So much nicer than sourdough (to me anyway).

1 cup white plain flour
1/2 cup wholemeal flour
1/2 cup mixed milled linseeds (flax), chia seeds, and blended walnuts or other nuts of choice.
1 teaspoon bicarb soda
1/2 teaspoon salt (or one tsp if you want).

1 egg whisked
1/4 cup oil (I use vegetable oil)
1/2 cup live natural yogurt
two tablespoons full fat milk. Whisk all wet ingredients together.

Add wet to dry and do NOT knead, just bring it together. if too dry add a mix of yogurt and milk by the tablespoon until you get a fairly wet consistency. In a greased loaf tin (or use a liner) for 30-40 minutes at 180. Test with toothpick or knife.

I make two or three of these every weekend (just multiply the ingredients x 3) and slice and freeze when cooled down completely. So nice with real butter/Lurpak. I make soldiers for boiled eggs with it for breakfast, and use it to dip in a mix of avocado and cream cheese. And strong cheddar cheese open sandwiches. Lots of uses and is not as dense or heavy as soda bread that uses just buttermilk and bicarb.

Just me throwing out what I do.

Overnight weetabix is my current favourite

Yozzer87 · 12/04/2024 18:16

Eggs with wholemeal toast, beans or tinned tomatoes on toast. Cottage cheese, avocado and cherry tomatoes in a bowl. Healthy BLT with bacon medallions. Skinny sausages.

Greek yogurt is great as it is high protein and quick and easy to prepare. I buy full fat though, I don't think the fat free is very nice.

I sweeten mine with a bit of honey and add berries, sometimes I'll add some almond flakes.

I sometimes go a bit “nice Spanish hotel buffet breakfast”. A slice of tortilla, some ripe sweet tomatoes with olive oil and chopped parsley or coriander, hard boiled egg , cucumber sticks etc. it’s a nice breakfast for a day when you aren’t rushing to get out of the house. You could add in chicken breast or ham. A few olives. A good coffee, a little pastry…….

At my favourite Spanish hotel you share your breakfast with the hotel tortoises who mooch about the place.

doubleshotcappuccino · 12/04/2024 18:23

Greek yoghurt and half a scoop of flavoured whey protein powder - I use chocolate - mix in frozen berries but I let them thaw in the fridge overnight because they're nicer to mix . This is great for breakfast but also delicious snack for anytime of the day . Like @Sagittarius I'm not going low fat at all at the full fat on keeps you from getting hungry ..

ErrolTheDragon · 12/04/2024 18:24

Greek yogurt, fruit and nuts. No need for anything sugary/carby with it if you've got nice fruit.

Or some sort of eggy thing - I like eggs Benedict on holiday but CBA to make them.

PartnersInCrime · 12/04/2024 18:26

Fage yogurt, berries and a drizzle of honey, a few nuts

DomesticatedSavage · 12/04/2024 18:39

M&S do a really creamy high protein yogurt, I spoon it on mixed berries and top with a tablespoon or two of good granola.
