A very dull car mystery for a Friday morning.

We bought a new car yesterday, everything is great very happy with it, engine and under carriage, wheels etc immaculate.

Its a 4x4 (which we need for towing and living rurally) but bought from a small City dealership.

One owner and we believe it was a commercial home, it also had a city council parking permit on the window

Here’s the (very dull mystery) thing, this is not a car that came from a farm or somewhere it’s going to have been bashed about, not a mark, scrape on it. Has a hitch and bull bars on the back (not standard fitting) but no electric pack so has either had the towing bits added and just never used or towed something/somewhere that doesn’t need lights etc.

It’s not a white Range Rover 😅 so I don’t think bars and tow bar have been added as status thing.

(DH did wonder if she electric cable is somewhere tucked up and non standard that he just hasn’t spotted yet)

We also spotted this sticker on the back which brings up nothing on Google reverse.

We had 5 hours to drive home and came up with some whacky, elaborate stories of where and what it could have been used for but wondered what you all thought…

That looks like a man kite surfing.

Clumsywithwords · 12/04/2024 09:44

Haha we thought it looked like some kind of demonic snowboarder with a pitch fork for a tail!!! 😅

Tower to mount a bike rack?

water skateboarder. Or whatever they sport is called

Zonder · 12/04/2024 09:46

Headless surfer with a pitchfork?

TheFlis · 12/04/2024 09:47

Yeah that’s a kite surfer. Kite kit is pretty bulky so you need a big vehicle. They may have also been going to some off the beaten track beaches where you wouldn’t want to take a normal car!

Wouldn’t they still need lights/electrics if they were putting their kite surf boards (is that what they are called?! 😅) on a trailer on the back?

Kite boards are small and the kites are inflatable so you wouldn’t usually put them on a trailer. They’re about the size of a large suitcase when packed. If they are kite surfers though they might have been into other water sports with kit that would need one e.g. kayak.

I just can't make out how it's a kit surfer. Where's the head?

Nitgel · 12/04/2024 12:30

looks like Horace goes skiing

TheFlis · 12/04/2024 12:33

@Zonder the sticker has clearly been damaged as the kite is also missing. The line going from the harness to the bar is a dead giveaway though. This is the closest example I can find online.

Maybe they didn’t use the tow bar for towing so didn’t need lights. In addition to towing, we use ours for mounting a bike rack and a rear carrying platform.

We do have lights on those too, but some cars might not need them (or their owners don’t care).

Have you get around under and up inside the back bumper? Dh has his electrics tucked up and on a hinge that allows the plate to be dropped down, or on occasion a plate pops out of the rear bumper and the electrics are behind the plate (if memory serves me correctly). I presume for aesthetic and weather protection. His tow bar also flips up and somehow is electronically dropped.
