My 6 year old DD is 7 in three weeks and has just given me her list. She doesn't expect all of it, maybe not even half but just some of these. However, I'm a bit Confused at some of it. Is this a normal list for this age?

Camera that prints pictures
Bike (definitely getting this as old one too small)
Rollerskates
Switch
Horrible Henry books
Filled Harry Potter pencil case
Harry Potter pens
Adidas shirt ConfusedConfused
Football game tickets ConfusedConfused
Barbie comic (has never liked BarbieConfused)
Adidas trainers ConfusedConfused
Adidas hoodie ConfusedConfused

I guess I'm Confused at all of the Adidas stuff. Is it normal for this age? I thought that would on 11/12 year olds list?

Mine were not interested in brands when they were that young.

Also bear in mind that the film for the instant cameras is hideously expensive.

Does she play at a football club? If so, I guess she just wants some of what she sees the other kids wearing. I don't think that is unusual.

No, the only on my kids list was Squashmallows and purple slippers…

@SanskritPixie I honestly can't believe it, we aren't brand-crazy so I don't know how this has come about! The camera I think would be a thermal one, not an instant print Polaroid one.

The last half of the list sounds like she's run out of ideas so is just adding on what she thinks her friends would put on their lists, I wouldn't worry about those things and she probably won't be upset if you ignore them!

Good shout. Or with older tweens/teens?

My just turned 7 year old is just taking note of brands and the main one is adidas. Also taken an interest in barbie recently. Doesn't seem that out there to me

ohanamechange · 12/04/2024 09:17

@WASZPy nope, my DP is a season ticket holder to one of the biggest clubs in our country (Scotland) and we have taken DD to about 4/5 games and always ends in her wanting to go at half time.

@kshaw I guess its the brands, not the Barbie as such. DD has never really been into toys or teddies, despite me buying lots of them.

No I don’t think that’s typical for a 6/7 year old. I’d be breaking the list down

The camera, bike, switch, football tickets, and rollerblades are ‘big’ gifts and for us they’d be getting one of those.

Then I’d do ‘middle’ size gifts - adidas stuff. One/two of these depending on budget

Then ‘smaller’ gifts - the Harry Potter stuff books, again a couple of these based on budget.

Our DS wanted nike trainers, a football shirt and a particular water bottle for his birthday to fit in with everyone at school. He isn't into football and cannot tolerate shoes well so ofc the latest trainers wouldn't have ever been worn.

We got him the water bottle and a 2nd hand football shirt of the chosen football team and instead of the trainers we got him Nike trackies. He was happy with that. And the latest trends soon changed again

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 12/04/2024 09:23

Maybe she has a friend at school who wears adidas and brags about it, so she’s got it into her head that it’s something she should want? Same with the Barbie thing. If it’s not something she would usually be interested in she’s probably copying another child. I would say the other items on the list are pretty typical for a 7 year old.

Solongtoshort · 12/04/2024 09:23

Just be pleased she isn’t asking for skin care, like my friends daughter.

my dd has the camera from smyths that prints the pictures you colour in, l think the rolls are £9.99 for 4, she loves it.

the switch k would leave for a Christmas present because of the cost, but that for us really turned into a gift for all of us as we play together.

CordylineCapybara · 12/04/2024 09:27

My DD is 6 and wouldn't know what Adidas was. She wants stuff with unicorns on!

DelurkingAJ · 12/04/2024 09:27

DS2’s Xmas list (age 7) was equally mind boggling and included ‘a phone with age 12 limits’ ‘a cat flap’ ‘another cat’ and ‘super snow power’. I’m not sure you can worry too much at that age, they’re completely oblivious to what’s appropriate. Needless to say, DS2 received none of his wish list after a little chat about being realistic.
