My DS goes to my old school. Girls are allowed trousers there now, or tights right from year 7. It used to be skirts only and tights were not allowed until 3rd year (Y9). They also allow long hair for boys and short/shaved haircuts for girls now as long as it falls under "sensible" and "not extreme".

OK, I nominate "children riding unsecured in the boot of a car".
