I‘m fuming on my sister’s behalf.
For the last 2 years the hospital have been faffing about with my sister’s health. After discovering her blood calcium levels were sky high and many scans later they told her she had parathyroid disease and would need the tumour removed.
I went along with her last spring to chat with the consultant regarding the op. We were told the operation would go ahead that summer.
That never happened. She was eventually given a post op appointment in November only to then be told 6 weeks later that there were more delays and the op was cancelled.
Eventually she had the op 3 weeks ago.
In recovery she was told all had gone well and to go to the GP to get the stitches removed. Great, she thought, she can get back on tract with her health which has really taken a beating with all the delays and the side effects from the parathyroid disease.
Today she received a message from
the hospital to inform her that the op didn’t go well because they could not actually find her parathyroid gland and therefore have not removed the tumour - wtf!
She will now need to have an extensive ct scan (this will be her 5th in 2 years!) to locate the gland and she will need to have the op again!
My poor sister is self employed, doesn’t have a lot of money and just can not afford to take more time off.
Why the hell has it taken 3 weeks post op to inform her of this? I’ve told her to complain to PALS but she won’t as she’s not a complainer and will just put up with shit but am I wrong in thinking this is such poor practice? She should have been informed of this on the day of the op or at the very least as soon after as possible?
