£500

I’m thinking maybe a weekend away with the family but I have had this tab open on my phone for a while https://www.homeofhammam.co.uk/products/one-size-peshtemal-kimono-49

Can you add it to your pension? You’ll get much more value from it due to the tax you’ll have to pay.

Sunquest · 11/04/2024 16:09

I'd enjoy it now and have a weekend away.

tangoboxing · 11/04/2024 16:10

Pension!

Bjorkdidit · 11/04/2024 16:14

Well it depends on how your finances are generally and your tax rate - you might keep less than half the bonus if you're a higher rate tax payer with student loan repayments for example.

But if you want to earmark some of the bonus towards the dressing gown, that seems reasonable.

Then you could put the rest towards a weekend away. I assume that this bonus isn't the only money you have available for non essentials so it's likely you can afford to top it up from other money?

If not, you would be much better having a smaller treat for you/family, then saving most of it so you have a bit of an emergency fund.

Head says pension or savings but heart says get the lovely thing you want and have a spa day or a weekend away.

GalileoHumpkins · 11/04/2024 16:17

Buy the Kimono!
Honestly, I'd blow the lot on books and sock yarn.

Coconutter24 · 11/04/2024 16:25

I wouldn’t put in pension that’s so boring for such a small amount. Will you need to pay tax on the amount? I’d just buy the thing you wanted if you’ve been looking at it for a while

TabbyM · 11/04/2024 16:28

Mine is already spent on boring things like hygienists and new passports....

WhatFlavourIsIt · 11/04/2024 16:32

Go for the Kimono. A weekend away Is nice, but I'd keep it to myself for a few lovely treats.

ivs · 11/04/2024 16:35

Kimono is not nice

Go have some fun

Brogues · 11/04/2024 16:54

This is what I think it’ll be rounded down after tax (and some recent dental work) has come out of it. I’ve already got a pension plan in place and am neither too far nor too close to retirement for it to make a lot of difference. Although I do appreciate paying my future self is the wisest decision, I plan on spaffing it on something!

It's money you weren't expecting and might jot have had so treat it like the unexpected treat it is and blow the lot on whatever you want!

TulipBluebells · 11/04/2024 18:19

Bonuses are for those little splurges you wouldn’t normally get. Get the kimono and a holiday bam.
