Coming off caffeine. Help!

How long before one feels human again?

I weaned off very slowly by increasing the volume of decaffeinated coffee and decreasing the real stuff, and only ever had one shot first thing anyway, so I thought it would be painless. I’ve been like a zombie all day 😟

About a week for me. How long has it been?

JuanTabo · 11/04/2024 14:54

This is only day one of 100% decaffeinated to be fair! A week doesn’t sound too bad.

I’d say a couple of weeks, I did it very slowly when we started TTC.

LipikarAP · 11/04/2024 14:56

Are you sure it's caffeine withdrawal if you only have one shot? I'm fine on a day without I have about 50

Could be a virus.

Caffeine does have a withdrawal syndrome- Terrible pounding headaches , yawning and watery eyes for me , and an “ Urgh” feeling.

I’ve cut down a lot, but not managed to quit full time.

A coffee when one is “ Withdrawing “ is a wonderful feeling- it tastes SO good!

JuanTabo · 11/04/2024 15:00

It is a general “urgh” feeling, could be a virus but I think it’s withdrawal.

One shot?
That’s a minor addiction- you could possibly have a bug as PPs say?

Shingles- when coming down with these I felt absolutely exhausted.

Then a red rash and blisters appeared.

FriedGold · 11/04/2024 15:02

Why bother to cut it out? Coffee helps the liver!

JuanTabo · 11/04/2024 15:02

Gosh I hope it’s not shingles! Poor you.

Newly diagnosed hypertensive, trying anything and everything to see if it helps!

Decaff coffee has the same health benefits for the liver as long as not combined with milk (same with caff coffee)

I was on a walk ( in Lockdown) and on awalk I do all the time- but thought “ How am I going to get home?”
That level of urgh..

Hopefully yours is just simple Caffeine withdrawals.

JuanTabo · 11/04/2024 15:09

Thankfully nothing like that level of “urgh”, I hope you never have it again. I just feel spaced out, hungover and profoundly demotivated.

Good to know about retaining potential benefits for liver health though!

I did the same weaning during my pregnancies and it was about a week. Cold turkey also takes about 4-5 days, but mixing is decaff is the method I recommend!
