Migrating from Tax Credits to Universal Credits

I’ve had to apply for UC after a letter about Tax Credits stopping. Filled in the form the other day and now the my usual TC of nearly £800 hasn’t arrived - have I fucked up by applying for UC a few days too soon and caused TC to be cancelled?

I think when you apply for UC the TC are stopped and there is a 5 week delay before UC is paid out. I think there is an "advance" you can get - you apply on your account and get a decision that day. The maximum advance is limited to the estimated monthly UC amount you might get and is paid back in installments

Thank you.

I am absolutely furious with myself and them.

Yes as soon as you migrate your tax credits stop.

we had to take out an advance payment which we will be paying back every month for a year!!!

Yes it stops. And if you apply on your payday it can mess up UC going forward.

UC is criminal for not making it massively clear. (I knew all this but I'm still going to be slightly worse off on UC after transitional protection ends).

It fucking stinks. Don’t know why I expected anything else from this crowd of crooks.

Don’t want a loan (to be paid back from what? Scotch mist?). Cunts, the lot of them.

It’s not down to the ppl who work for UC that word C NOOOOO

@Nicetobenice67 I was referring to the current government. I do realise that most of the people who work for HMRC, misguided as they may be, are just trying to earn a living and are not making policy.
