Yesterday morning I had really sharp pains in my stomach that would come and go every few minutes, I had this along side stomach gurgling and wind and then it seemed to fade away.
Now I've been constipated for months, I'm 8 weeks post partum and although I go every morning and it's always hard and pebbly bowel movements. Well I've had two episodes of sloppy poo this morning alongside the stomach gurgling.
No appetite at all yesterday I barely ate a thing, also I've started to do these really deep belches, huge burps that come from deep within! I would think a stomach bug but would that make you burp?? I'm also really bloated
Any ideas ??
I keep thinking it's a stomach ulcer as I take ibuprofen everyday but I do also take omeprazole which I thought it supposed to protect your stomach

It sounds like your constipation has got worse. Get a laxative and see how you go for a few days then call a doctor if things either don't change or you feel worse.

DustyLee123 · 11/04/2024 07:41

It could be overflow of your constipation. You need to sort that out, prunes are best IMO

Gall bladder?

I’d ring 111
Why are you taking daily ibuprofen? Not being nosy, wondering about relevant conditions that might make you more vulnerable.

Belching does go hand in hand with constipation- and I’d say you need to address it, but carefully if you are post partum!

IAmGrey · 11/04/2024 07:44

Ibuprofen will destroy your stomach, even with a PPI. Stop taking it and see your GP.

toottoto · 11/04/2024 07:57

It's for sciatica and a herniated disc, had a bad back for years but haven't been on the ibuprofen for years.
I did wonder if it could be linked to the constipation... what is overflow?? It's weird how I've gone from pebbly stools to full on shits (sorry) not watery but very loose and sloppy:
What's making me think it isn't an ulcer is there is no burning pain when eating or constant heartburn or anything !
And the burping is just weird

You are probably impacted. You can be so bunged up by solid constipation that liquid faeces leak around the obstruction. It's an unpleasant condition, and the pain, gurgling and burping are normal with it.

The treatment is using Laxido or similar products, which you can buy OTC, but as you're so closely PP I would go to the GP. You would need a proper disimpaction regime - far more than 1 or 2 sachets/day - probably followed by continuous use as your colon recovered.

Thank you. What's the issue with being post partum though ? I also had a c section. Afterwards I was prescribed iron and it just made it so much worse, I stopped taking that 6 weeks ago but the constipation remains. I was constipated during pregnancy but I do believe the iron made it a lot worse

There's a risk of injury if you do things without medical advice, especially if you're recovering from a C-section. Get booked in with your GP today.

You could try taking magnesium every day. There are several different types of magnesium so do your research. Ultimately it relaxes you and your digestive system.

toottoto · 11/04/2024 08:16

I've already got lactulose which was prescribed alongside the iron, I've only taken it a few times and never kept to the regime so maybe I need to do that first

Oh and/ or something like Biokult.

The effect of pregnancy on your bowels increases constipation, and iron often makes it worse. The NHS generally prescribes ferrous sulphate, the cheapest form of iron supplement. Also the most constipating and the least-well absorbed. If you need to take iron again, buy bisglycinate, gentle or chelated iron - different names for forms of iron that are far better absorbed and far better tolerated.

Impaction is more serious than just being constipated. You are recovering from an internal abdominal wound - impaction stretches an abdominal organ. We are not HCPs. You are more vulnerable in your PP condition, so should be medically supervised. And alternative conditions ruled out.

Lactulose won't disimpact you. Personally, I find prunes and ground flaxseed vastly better than lactulose.

pickledandpuzzled · 11/04/2024 08:54

But take it seriously- get it dealt with.

toottoto · 11/04/2024 08:55

Thank you for the info. I am so bloated I look pregnant again !
This is weird though, my toddler was burping excessively a few days ago, and had looser stools. Only just thought about that..
Also my husbands work friend said his mum had a bug and she was burping a lot too!!

OP posts:
pickledandpuzzled · 11/04/2024 10:01

So it could be a bug- but you still need to address constipation.

I drink fizzy drinks to ease a gassy tummy- it’s very effective at creating massive burps that release all the other gas 🤣

try prunes. Coffee.

And in the longer term work harder at avoiding constipation! It’s a bit of a vicious circle and best nipped in the bud!

The anaesthetic for the CS and the iron will both have contributed. Orange juice with dark green Veg will help both!

That sounds like a plan. Then if things don't improve you can go back to your GP.

longtompot · 11/04/2024 12:05

I imagine after a c section is very much like after a hysterectomy in that you can't push very well when trying to go to the loo. I took liquid laxative 10ml twice a day which really helped get things moving. I would try and be more regular about taking the laxative for a few days and speak to your gp. The fact your child also had similar issues would say there might be a bug causing this, but best to be sure by getting checked out.

Singleandproud · 11/04/2024 12:10

I would follow the medical regime the GP has already put you on. Perhaps add prunes and black liquorice etc to you diet for their natural effects too and see how you go for a week or so.

toottoto · 12/04/2024 08:52

Well I didn't stop pooping yesterday ! So can say it is definitely a bug, I've still not really got an appetite and I am still going to the toilet on day 3!!
