Non awkward online team social activity

I've recently taken over a team that is fully remote (we meet in person once a quarter). It has been strongly suggested by higher ups that we should do some sort of remote team social in between but, quite honestly, I can't think of many things more cringe/awkward. I find online meetings bad enough with delays and people talking over each other. I've seen things like online escape rooms etc but have never done them myself.

But, in the spirit of having a go, has anyone tried or been involved in anything like this that was actually good or fun? There are 8 of us in the team, most of them are writers and so naturally fairly introverted/quiet.

We've had a takeaway and a quiz, paid for by work. That was quite good.

What about an online quiz? There are loads of those, we have used Goose's Quizzes in the past, the run online private events.

My team have done an online escape room and it was really good fun. The advantage of everyone being at home was you could drink and not worry about getting home!

I second a quiz. Kahoot do good ones where you can all use your phones/tablets at home. Or just a YouTube one with someone keeping score.
I wouldn't want anything more 'organised' and faffy than that.

We did online escape rooms, and it went down really well, good feedback

Scribblio

I second Kahoot! Even better if you can ‘suggest’ your little-known specialist subject.

We've done quizzes and pictionary (which is funny as drawing with your finger on the screen makes the pics extra bad) type games.

We also do things like cupcake decorating or cocktail mixing kits, all sent to us in the post.

We did a scavenger hunt in lockdown. Team seemed to enjoy it (we had 3 smaller teams within the large team so we made it a competition)

Valhalla17 · 10/04/2024 21:22

Scribbilio mentioned above is good fun
Sip and paint as well, if budget for an artist to lead it and the paint sets sent to homes etc...

Flowermarket · 10/04/2024 21:38

Thanks for all the suggestions, sounds like a quiz is a good shout, and I like the sound of a scavenger hunt! Unfortunately there isn't a budget for it so it will have to be cheap and cheerful although sip and paint is right up my street.
