I've namechanged as some indentifing details!
My and DP and DS (3) have decided to move to a different city, about an hour away. This is due to lots of reasons but one is that we don't have any good Schools around us, and DS is due to start in Sept 2025. Now we've made the decision I've realised that we would need to be in location for a School in Jan 2025, giving us 8/9 months to make the move!! Our house is likely to sell okay, as we're in a well liked area and have done some work to it (new bathroom/kitchen/boiler). The city we're moving too has a slower market for sure.
I was talking to FIL and he mentioned selling ours and renting in new city, to get a feel of where you want to buy, and taking the pressure off. This sounds like it ticks some boxes as we're new to the city and would speed up the process a bit, but keeping that amount of money in a bank account seems mental! And moving is stressful enough without knowing we'll have to do it again when we find a place to buy.
Any advice very welcomed. Should I worry about the primary School stuff? Any financial advice when it comes to having that chunk of money somewhere? Do people do this in general?
